Desert flowers

Any suggestions on where to view desert flowers the end of February through March? Mostly planning on traveling in Arizona and New Mexico but open to other areas. Camping nearby is a plus.

If you are heading to CA too, Feb-Mar probably Joshua tree or Anza Borrego, both have excellent campgrounds, after March probably Death Valley.

There was a nice display of flowers last Spring at the Lost Dutchman State Park near Apache Junction, AZ, although if you don't have a reservation, it may be difficult to get into. Even the overflow section was full when I stopped by in late February.

We went geocaching near Aguila, AZ on US 60 between Wickenburg and Quartzsite during the super bloom 2 years ago. There is a road called Aguila right in the middle of town that heads SE towards the Eagle Eye hole formation. The road is really boring and straight, but near the Harquahala trailhead is a wide pull off camping area just under the Eagle Eye. It was a lovely thick palette of colors, set against a great mountain and eye hole formation. If you geocache it is a power trail. If you do not, it is just a great spot to see the flowers.

Just left Joshua Tree NP. Pretty good show driving south from Belle campground to I10.

The Picacho Peak area north of Tucson/Marana usually has nice flowers. Also southwest from Tucson out to Three Points along Hwy 86 (Ajo Way). If you're out by Organ Pipe and Ajo, the flowers are usually a week or two earlier than around Tucson.

At many desert sites flowers are happenstance; they occur after a rare downpour. Big Bend National Park is like this, so is Death Valley. You can go years between good blooms. You have to be lucky.

If you find yourself in California, check out the wildflowers at the Carrizo Plains National Monument in eastern San Luis Obispo County. These photos were taken a couple years ago. That's my better half in the field of yellow flowers.

Am in Parker heading to fiberglass rally. Already seeing booms on ocotillo & other plants. With all the moisture am sure this tour of southern Az will be amazing.
