We are working on our build for a 19. We do not have AC but would like a digital thermostat for the heat. I'm confused as to what kind of thermostat we need. Someone mentioned milivolt compatible. How do we know if it is? ETI said they would install one if we provide it. I just need to know what kind I have to buy.

There's more than one brand to choose from but here's the one I installed in my 19. So much easier to use.

For heat only I think any battery powered thermostat will work.
Looks like Ron has the Honeywell TH1100D

by selecting Lo first, then AC, you get slower quieter AC, but although the compressor stops when appropriate, the fan never stops--all night.

Thanks. It seems hard to find a milivolt compatible thermostat online. I plan to call Honeywell tomorrow and see what they have to say.

We have A/C but only wanted the digital thermostat for the heater. We put in:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ilpage_o07_s00
Emerson 1E78-140 Emerson 70 Series Single Stage Non-Programmable Heat Only Thermostat by White-Rodgers
It was about $23 and works great! It's amazing how such a little thing can make such a difference...the old thermostat was a constant source of annoyance.

Thanks everyone. I was having a hard time finding something in Canada. I called Honeywell and the rep told me that they did not have any digital milivolt compatible thermostats. I figured he was probably out to lunch. I did find one at Home Hardware. It is Honeywell model #RTH221B. You could use it for heat or cool. It's apparently fine with heat only, which is what we'll have. It cost $32 CAD. FYI, ETI is not charging to install. We just have to provide it. So glad I found one!

I'm curious on the benefit of the digital thermostat, is it easier to set a certain temperature? What I did with the standard thermostat is turn it on full blast until the temperature got to where I wanted and then turned down the thermostat slowly until I heard it click off. Then it would cycle on and off and it held that temperature.

This is the one I had in the 19. Worked great, and pretty sure I did no pay this much.

There are a few advantages. It is way easier to see the temp. It is much more accurate, and you can set the temp you want, and not just guess it was 2/3 of the way between marks (now which two marks was that, and was it 2/3 up, or 2/3 down), and is also easier to turn on and off. I just wish I had of put one in WAY sooner.

Is it difficult to install? Would definitely be easier to operate.

If I'm cold, I turn the thermostat up. It's irrelevant to me what it claims is the temperature.

The digital unit reduces "temperature swing" which occurs when your heat runs until it causes the bimetalic thermostat to expand and cut off, sometimes missing the set temperature by several degrees, thus you get hot. then on the downswing the same occurs and you feel cold. with the digital is more even tempered.

Yes, choose the one with the biggest digital display. Easier reading in the middle of the night.
