Whoa there Myron. Don't be invoking the NEED word. Very few of us NEED any of our mods or options, or even our Escapes. (Ducking and running for cover.) Want, desire, like, prefer, etc.

The remote t-stat for the AC does add function that the unit-mounted controls do not have.

With the unit-mounted controls if the AC is turned on the interior fan runs all the time, the compressor cycles on and off. AND the AC unit has less head room under it - it sticks down further into the trailer.

With the remote t-stat the fan AND the compressor both cycle on and off.

Given the remote t-stat, it only makes sense to add the furnace to it. I prefer to have my controls co-located as much as possible.

At home I control all my heating/cooling from 1 t-stat. (Apart from opening/closing windows and doors.)

Time to add to the discussion. I have buyer's remorse, or precisely, build sheet remorse. I didn't order the digital thermostat, but now wish I did for the 21.

I made an inquiry to ETI about retro-fitting a digital thermostat. Got the same reply about wiring. What's a few wires? I did a somewhat similar install in a Casita, following webmaster Gene's instructions.

I contacted Dometic. There are two parts that are needed:
Non-ducted Ceiling Assembly, part # 3314850.000
Single Zone LCD Repay kit, [art # 3313189.000

Wiring shouldn't be a problem with the a/c unit near the cabinet (the one where the door doesn't stay open) and the existing thermostat.

When the weather gets better (no more rain or cold) I'll venture out to the Escape and do some detail planning. If all looks good then I'll order the parts.

Stay tuned . . .

I just looked at my build sheet. I think I'm ready to be angry at myself, no wiring for a digital thermostat in place. But, who knows what the future will bring....

Donna, just to clarify, no wiring for a digital thermostat that will control A/C remotely but the wiring for the A/C is in place. But the existing wires for your hard to operated manual thermostat are just fine for a digital replacement.

Whew Ron. I don't know why I'm sweating this... I mean really. I just really, really dislike the standard thermostat. Turning it on/off leaves dents in my thumb and I'm worried about breaking off the "tab." All I really want is an easier-to-use digital (and no sore thumb), but when the time comes for A/C (which is wired)... everything is in place (no running wires under the headliner).

If this isn't a "first world problem", I don't know what is.

Donna, you can even have a choice of features, there's several digital, non-programmable ones available. Your two choices are really basic, one shows only the existing temperature or one that displays the set temperature and the current temperature. Depends on whether you want that second feature but most importantly they all have soft touch controls, much better than your current type.

So here's what I recommend; buy one and take it to the Escape rally. Wander around and look helpless and say "does anyone know how to install this thermostat?" Standing in front of site C-33 might be effective
