Discontinued Small Frameless Thermal Windows

I received word from Escape today that the manufacturer of the windows have been acquired and will be moving their manufacturing. The change means all small frameless thermal windows are no longer available. Whats the biggest consequence of switching to non-thermal, or should I just go with sliding thermal?

Excerpt is below:

"On Friday, we were advised they will no longer be manufacturing the Small (14”w x 16”h) Frame-less Thermal Window, due to warranty issues, which we use in the manufacturing of the Escape Travel Trailer. This window is used in the following locations:

The Optional Bathroom Window
Frt. Passenger and Driver’s Side Windows in the 17’B
The Frt. Passenger Side in the 17’A
The Optional Kitchen Window 17’A, 17’B, and 19’
The Optional Window over the 2-Drawer Stack in the 21’

You are receiving this email as the manufacturing of your trailer will be affected by these changes to the Frame-less Windows. Please find attached a copy of your build sheet which reflects this change with the Frame-less Thermal to a Frame-less Non-Thermal Window."

I hope they have already purchased enough for my new one, I'm getting 2..... I'd take the non thermal if I have to, just means adding reflectix to the window in the bath. This type of problem is something I do not like to see nor be exposed to. I'm hoping Escape may have already purchased a bunch. I guess it will be a wait and ......see?

I assume you would just put the reflectix in the window(s) when its cold out? We're getting two as well.

Yes, I already have one cut from an older non thermal small window. I insert it inside the frame and it stays put. Just makes it dark in the bath......... the one over the stack I'll leave alone

Jim,

When is your completion date? I received a similar notice and my date is April 23rd. I would assume that you would receive an email if your build was affected. There may be a date cutoff where they run out and those folks get the email.

At this late date, you ought to know where all the parts are!

Why would one want a window that has warranty issues?

Reace just signed off on my build sheet 3 business days ago. I would guess they don't start a parts inventory / ordering for a particular build until after Reace signs the build sheet. I'm assuming parts for options are demand driven rather than carrying a big inventory.

For base build items it would make sense to buy in bulk and carry inventory if space allowed but not for options.

Unfortunately, with my April completion I'm impacted also. Tammy just called me and said that Escape just received a letter in the mail this week about the discontinuance and basically anything after this month will have the non thermal small window change. I originally had a December completion date and did not want the trailer sitting outside in the weather and I switched dates last year to correspond with the rally. But because of that I am part of the change. Oh well, life goes on, I'm sure it will still be exceptional.....

I received the letter also, I'm a bit confused. My 21's completion date is 2/13, that's in two days. I'm guessing that all trailers that are upcoming, they bulk shipped out the letter.

Don't assume anything. Four days before our completion- which was also orientation ETI called to say three windows were installed and four were on backorder. This was after calling them three days prior to confirm everything was all set so I could book a flight for Susan.

Well that’s a bummer. Condolences to all who are adversely affected. I had one bad window that ETI replaced under warranty. Actually, they mailed it to me per my request, and I have yet to install it. Maybe I’ll hold off on doing that til the separation gets worse. Right now I can slip a dollar bill in between the panes, but that’s it. Shame on the window manufacturer for screwing up and then dropping the ball on making it right. Kudos to ETI for doing the best they can and for keeping everyone informed in a timely fashion!

Is this consensus just to stick with the non-thermal frameless then?

Looked at ETI website to be sure: a non-thermal frameless doesn't seem to exist. Function over form- slider thermal windows perform!

We got the email too for our March 15 completion. As far as I can tell the replacement windows are non thermal frameless. I was wondering about trying to switch to the framed windows but I am guessing that the same small windows in the 17B in the slider are non-thermal as well??

No. This issue only applies to the Small (14”w x 16”h) thermo frameless windows. The larger sizes are not impacted.

Depending on Escape model, the optional bath and driver side 21' will be non thermal awning windows. The 19' E model has the same optional bath that is impacted. Not sure if the optional kitchen in the E17 is the same?

Jim, with the E17B, completion date Feb 15, three windows have been touched, i.e. Kitchen, front passenger side & driver side. I could see those changes from the pictures ETI been sending during production. Just receive ETI e-mail today advising the change.

ETI compensation is $25 CDN per Window, since we already paid for thé frameless thermal Windows. The change is minor in my opinion and can live easily with it.
