Equalizer hitch changes

I got the same email today. It will be Pro Series without sway control for me.

I got the E2 on my trailer. Just picked up and drove back a few weeks ago. This is my first travel trailer and first wdh so nothing to compare to. Only towed a small utility trailer before

It is nice. They set it up there. On the trip back I didn't notice any sway. Hookup etc is fine. I did get the electric jack so easy.

When first left after picking it up I did notice some porpoising but thinking that was just the hitch weight being off? We just threw our gear in and took off. Once the tanks had water in them and gear more organized that seemed to mostly go away.

Once I get it all set up and organized I'll get it weighed so I know total weight. I ordered one of the Sherline tongue weight scales so I can check it any time and adjust

ETI specifically said to me that for the 21' they suggest the e2.

We are getting the e2.



i cant see any reason we would not like it.

yes, Im pretty sure. My bill of sale lists the pro series 600# trunion with sway control.
$475 cdn.

That wouldn't be surprising, since the Pro Series is the same type (trunnion) and tongue weight rating (600 pounds). It seems to me that the 92-00-0600 - trunnion with 450 pound rating - would be a better match for an Escape 17', but there's no indication in the Escape web pages whether or not the model of E2 varies with the model of trailer.

Just to be sure I understand it correctly, does the wdh that you had installed by ETI, and the one that is shown on my build sheet as "E2 by FastWay Integrated Sway Control and Weight Distribution Hitch" look like the attached photo?

Thanks to those who posted their experiences with the Anderson hitch. It appears to function well for us but I will go check on the wear points discussed.

I drove down to the factory in Chilliwack and spoke directly with Dennis. He cleared things up for me. The answer is that the E2 by FastWay Integrated Sway Control and Weight Distribution Hitch is the one shown in the photo. No chains! That is the one I will get for our 2017 21' Escape!

I agree. A single-axle trailer can do this if the combination of tug suspension and trailer mass, triggered by road bumps, happens to hit a resonant frequency... like car without shock absorbers bouncing. A tandem-axle trailer, on the other hand, inherently bucks whenever there is a bump.

When the leading axle's wheels go over a bump that reduces the load on the trailer's tongue, and then a fraction of a second later the trailing wheels hit and it goes the other way, adding to tongue load. The hitch gets jerked up then down. Anything that makes the hitch go up or down (the tug's rear wheels hitting a bump, accelerating, braking...) has a similar effect.

If the tongue weight momentarily goes to zero then the hitch clunks (more free play in the coupling means more clunk); this can be reduced by increasing tongue weight, or by clamping on a WDH (a conventional WDH puts a huge force down on the ball and up the head through the spring bars).

Wow, I feel for my Canadian friends. Everything seems to be substantially more expensive. A Pro Series WDH runs about $270 USD here.

For what its worth I have been told the the E2 is a Chinese knock off of the American made Equalizer.

Ah, it's a Fastway? I was referring to the Pro Series on E-Trailer. But, the Fastway E2 runs about $299 at PPL Motorhomes and a few other sites.

I had the anderson on my Casita and I thought it was a pain. You had to be perfectly straight hooking up or the chains wouldn't make up. We bought the Pro series with trunnion from ETI and they work flawlessly on our 21. Easy on and easy off. Really happy with them except for the price we paid for them in Canada.
