Escape Owners Facebook Page

I think it would be a great idea to have a closed Facebook page similar to the Casita Owners FB page. They currently have over 2500 owners, former owners and wannabes enrolled. The current Escape FB page does not seem to have very much activity. Keep it simple and call it "Escape Owners". Our forum is great for technical stuff, but the FB page would be for lighter topics. Just saying...

Explain.
Why do I want to go to two places instead of one?

If you take half the traffic from this site to Facebook, Facebook will earn more ad revenue and this site will earn less.
Revenue, as little as it is, is what sustains this forum.

Nice thought, but for me the forum is great. It's like a close knit family. Whatever help is needed, technical or not, there are always "family members" willing to help. Loving this forum and their members!!

I respect everyone's input, and the forum is a great resource. What I have found is that FB seems to have more realtime responses to "headed to XYZ nNational Park...can't wait to get there!", with a response like " Yikes! I live near there and I just heard the park is closed due to bad weather", or "We will be there too! We are in site xx. Let's get together".

I believe both formats can co-exist without any issues.

I agree, but I also cringe when I see those posts both on FB and in a forum. In today's society you really shouldn't ever reveal where you are going to be at in any kind of Internet venue. The criminal element knows your house is empty and where you are located to hit your trailer when you are sightseeing.

Folks need to be way more cautious when traveling and post in public venues where you went after you get back. If there are particular people you want to come meet you then PM, email, or call them and let them know where you'll be. Sorry for the personal security rant, but it is something everyone needs to keep in mind.

If you do set up a Facebook page, can you make it so it filters cats?

I think that this is very important for folks to consider.

In other groups they co-exist nicely. Forums tend to have more technical information and FB allows for quick social interaction and perhaps pics of a neat campground or whatever. I for one, would follow both.

I completely agree that the "we are away from the house" posts are I'll advised. I don't happen to have a Facebook account so that's not a problem for us. I used to do a lot of inspections and postings for upcoming tree work to be done on the parkways and parkings. We would often approach a home to speak with the homeowner or leave an explanatory door tag. In the summer months, when school was out, if there were kids around they would often run up to us and proudly announce that our homeowner was away on vacation, went to the grocery or whatever. Always remember, if there's kids around, they know. And they were amazingly accurate on return predictions.

I love the Casita FB page and I still occasionally contribute to it. I really enjoy all of the great pics and stories of people traveling. Eileen does a great job running it. In the Casita community, the FB page and the forum coexist just fine. I think it would be great if there was a similar FB page for the Escape and I would contribute pics and short trip reports of our adventures. Just my opinion.

I use Facebook, but have no interest in a Facebook page for this purpose and would not participate. Some of you will say "good, let's set one up then".

This forum is not run by Escape Trailer Industries, but Reace and Tammy participate here (and to a lesser extent in FiberglassRV) to consult with the user community and to communicate information; this is unusual in the RV industry, and appreciated by many of us. Would people wanting a Facebook page expect Reace and Tammy to participate in that, taking them away from here to some extent? I hope not.

I see a Facebook page, and this forum, as two completely different entities, and believe they could work fine in parallel.

The biggest advantage of a forum, is the ability to search past posts for information.

The advantage of Facebook is that is is usually way more fun, which some think forums are not meant to be.

My only concern with posting on a Facebook page, is that I could not hide under the veil of a forum username.......oh wait!
