Sorry to hear Perry that AZ&MN weather is similar now. I do sympathise with you but certainly am glad that this year, rather than AZ again we flew to Mexico for six weeks.

Glad you're keeping warm though in your Bigfoot. You must enjoy the walk around queen!

Yes, that was us, Ric and Nanette! We're heading out to San Antonio Texas. Hope the storm doesn't get too bad in Woodstock. Glad you're getting your trailer back. Safe travels!

We had internet on Sunday, but it was off on Monday, including Wilcox, 30 miles away. Finally went on this morning.

Off to Bisbee today to meet with friends!

Hi Perry. We were in the Chiricahua’s too but staying at Rusty’s RV Ranch. Not quite so cold, no snow, and full hook ups helped! It’s a great little RV park with animals from around the world!

Now we are at Lost Dutchman and when we arrived there were 4 Escapes in our little loop of 15 sites plus a few others sprinkled elsewhere in the park. Still cold here today but forecast has a warming trend finally!

Two things:

Batteries. At 15 degrees our dual 6volts have never gone below 65% with several days of cloud and a little solar. However, our furnace gets cranky at about 77% and quits about 70%.

We will go to Wilcox on Tuesday.

We love Rusty’s! It’s one of the few full-hookup campgrounds we go to every winter. Great hiking there. Don’t try it in late March/April when it’s full of birders. We arrive at Rusty’s on Sunday for only 4 nights though, then to City of Rocks, Davis Mountains for two nights with tickets for the observatory on Saturday, and then 7-10 nights at Cottonwood Campground at Big Bend. Then we visit an old friend in San Antonio for five days and then spend the rest of March heading east to Inverness where we have many biking friends who literally live on the Withlacoochee Bike Trail.

Enjoy,

Perry

Hi Perry,

Was just noodling around deciding where to stay at Chiricahua National Monument about this time next year when your report popped up. Was thinking about boon-docking up on FR-42 or staying at Bonita Canyon CG, but was wondering if it might get pretty cold that high up. Question: I've read that the total rig length limit at Bonita Canyon CG is 29'; is that where you are? Wondering if you managed to squeeze in.

Wishing you warm sunny weather the rest of your trip!

We stay at Bonita Canyon every year for a week. This year is the first time with cold and snow. Our Bigfoot is 25’ long and will fit in most sites. Over the years, we’ve heard many longer trailers scrape going through the dips. If we’re on the east side we either stay at Rusty’s RV or go into the mountains and stay at the forrest service campground or one of the many pure boondocking sites further up the canyon.

Enjoy,

Perry

Perry,

Thanks so much for the info. There's nothing like getting real world intelligence on these things - both in terms of the size of the sites & the expected weather.

May your upcoming days be warm & sunny!

Cool UFE sighted over BC, Montana boarder

This UFE was sighted in BC, Canada near the boarder with Montana just recently.

NORAD called in a couple of F22 to escort until it was identified as friendly. Apparently the aliens were just looking for a camp site. Instructions were passed on and no further action was taken.

Sounds like an awesome trip, Perry. We'll be at City of Rocks in New Mexico on 2/24 for a few nights. Not sure if that is the same City of Rocks you all are going to.

Have a safe trip

Is this what everyone keeps referring to as "boon docking"?

Yikes! Planning to arrive there this time next year hoping to escape the cold & snow. Wasn't expecting summertime weather, but snow?

It's supposed to be 68 here in Pittsburgh tomorrow & was 70 last Thurs. Maybe we're the new garden spot.

Hope it warms up soon!

This was our fifth winter at Chiricahua NM, three in February and two in early March. The other four times were wonderful. That’s as perfect as my life gets!

BTW, when we left Chiricahua NM our 25’ Bigfoot cleared both dips by at leas 6”. Easy Peazy!

Enjoy,

Perry
