us vs cd $

When we first looked at Escape it was almost a $1.40 us to $1.00 cd but it didn't finish that good for us it ended up being about $1.28 or so to 1.00cd So my advice get your $ money into ETI as soon as possible .Gas and oil might take a jump especially if its a cold Winter .This is definitely a double edge sword for Canadians the buying power is more for US products but businesses will have a harder time selling with a stronger CD $ .

I've read that the Canadian Dollar is going to rise further versus the US $ . Several predictions are for 90 cents US to 1 CDN by year end.
It would be nice if this happen's . One for One would be better but that looks aways off .

I imagine my Canadian Snowbird neighbors hope it will do that again by November when they come back down.
I noticed a few have sold their homes. I imagine the house price recovery down here combined with the difference in our dollars made the Canadian Taxman happy.

Wow, didn't realize it had gone that direction. It was a couple of points more in our favor when we bought in 2015.

I agree. It would benefit both countries to have a more equal rate. Frankly, considering the strength of the Canadian economy, there's no reason why it shouldn't climb.

When I was a kid we could buy an ice cream cone on the exchange from a Canadian buck. I doubt that we'll ever see that situation again.

To paraphrase

When we were kids we played a lot of board games,Including Yahtzee. As we shook the dice I remember Saying "save your Confederate money boys, the South will rise again.
And then there's my high rollin friend from Wisconsin who held onto one for one Canadian bucks a while back. To him I say . Save your Canadian Money brother, the Looney will fly again.

At the airport to fly home from Dominican Republic, people came around with fistfuls of loons and toons, offering to sell $20 CAD for $10 US.
They had no use for these 'tips' they'd received from Canadians. They couldn't exchange them at the bank.
I took a couple hundred $1 US bills for tips so as not to stiff them.

Dollar is at a 7 year high and that is the average cycle it seems. One doesn't necessarily have to send money to ETI,- instead buy Canadian dollars now. Several ways to do that.

In any country I would expect to sell foreign currency at a currency exchange (which they apparently call "cambios" in the Dominican Republic), rather than a bank. Any currency not normally used on the street - apparently Dominican Pesos, US Dollars, and maybe Euros - isn't very useful to them unless they can get to a currency exchange and and get a reasonable exchange rate; if a bank will take the foreign currency, the person selling it would presumably need an account. My guess is that there would be no more problem with Canadian Dollars than any other random worldwide currency; try spending (or tipping with) something random such as Japanese Yen in Canada, and you'll see how much it's worth "on the street" when the street is in the wrong country.

American tourists are accustomed to using US Dollars in tourist areas of Mexico (because they cater so heavily to that customer group), but I found in Mexico City that the street vendors weren't interested in anything but the country's legitimate currency (Mexican Pesos)... which was fine with me. According to TripAdvisor, the Dominican Republic is similar.

Apparently tipping in US Dollars is common in the Dominican Republic, and it certainly beats handing out less useful currency, but Dominican Pesos (presumably 50 peso bills) would be even better, right? Unfortunately, from what I've read the ATMs there hand out 200 peso bills.

Problem is, you don't want to be stuck with an excess of pesos at the end of your vacation either.

True; that's an irritation and possibly an expense depending on how you get the pesos. The currency exchange that I used for Mexican Pesos takes back excess after the trip at the rate originally paid and without charging another transaction fee, because everyone has this issue.

2X. I've now had the experience of paying 1% more for a trailer (my 2011 17) and 26% less (the 21).

I have some Canadian friends at Quartzsite that will be pleased as the rates even out...

USD is dropping like a rock since I made my deposit 6 weeks ago.. Doesn't look good for the USD for the next few months either. My delivery date is early Nov - wonder if it makes sense to pay a big chunk now before it goes lower
