Flip up table height

First, I want to thank Ross and Susan (Rossue)for giving us the opportunity to look at their 21 so we could fine-tune our build sheet. Thank you for all your insight as experienced escape travelers!
We contacted Escape with the updates to our build list. We asked for the flip up tables in the dinette area to be table height as stated on Ross's build sheet. Escape contacted us and said they only install the flip up tables at counter height. So now my question is to those who own the 21 and have flip up tables at the dinette - how many inches from the floor to the top of the flip up table are yours mounted?
Thank you
Mary

I can't remember what height, but remember because the tables fold down against the wall area they have to be able to clear the cushions. I do know mine fit by just a bit.

Our impression is that the flip-up tables may already be higher than the table. But people can come up with measurements for table height and flip-up table height. The flip-up tables cannot go lower because of the cushions. Doubt anyone would want them higher than they are. There is really little choice as to how they are installed.

Picture of flip up table in relation to "counter" height

Hi Donna and Cathy
The tables just clear the cushions, but they are not as high as the counter. So would this be the standard install height? This is what we want. I would not call it counter height

I would say that just clearing the cushions by a couple of inches is the standard installation height (which is where ours are without specifying) but they could be higher on some. I do not know if they even pay attention to exactly the height where installing. Don't know that anyone has asked for higher. (Edited)

Our particular case, however, is that we would not want the flip-up table higher there because we have a TV situation, for which lower is better.

Standard height for a table is 30" from the floor, 12" higher than the 18" for a chair seat. Standard counter height is 36".

Thus, if everything is standard, the flip-up table can be 12" in length to clear the seat cushions.

Of course, this is all assuming that standard heights are used. I know in the 21 an 5.0, the seats are higher than 18", the reason a few folks have built up the floor height under the table.

Mary, if you are worried that they will be too high, discuss this with them and they may specify on the build sheet.

This is what we were told when we asked the flip up tables at the dinette be installed at table height
Quote:
We are only able to install counter extensions (flip up tables) at the same height as the counter top. If you require an alternative height, we can leave the extensions uninstalled, providing you with the hardware to install them after market.
Since we plan to use them instead of the table, we do not want them too high.
Thank you, Jim, for the measurements. We measured 32" from the floor to the top of the flip up table.

My guess is the standard installed height is due to the wall framing mounting points. They would probably install them wherever you wish if you pay to have the mounting walls reinforced. I would do the latter and take the extensions loose to install myself exactly where I want them.

Mary, I will also pm you back about this but just for anyone's interest, I have checked and our flip-up tables are indeed at counter height. That makes them a few inches higher than the table height. What's more, I am pretty sure from looking at it before that they just clear the cushions by a couple of inches. Someone can confirm. What that means is that you probably do not want them at table height. Anyone with table height can confirm if he cannot put the flip-up tables down. I expect they can by removing cushions.

Also, to open the benches, the flip-up tables must be put down.

As mentioned earlier, they can't be mounted lower or you won't be able to fold them. They will hit the cushions.

I'm getting a pain in my back trying to imagine eating dinner, sitting at right angles to the extension. Difficult to eat soup or cut a steak. Wouldn't be very sociable either.

Maybe I've got the wrong picture of what you are trying to accomplish.

We use them and they work okay. You can place items on them but use some items sitting toward the middle, not toward the flip-up tables. We are also trying out little removable tables. We are actually used to not using a table for eating. Also have a big tray.

Notice they say "counter extensions", our counter extension is of course counter height, would look kind of goofy if it were lower. The little folding tables some of you get in the dinette are not really counter extensions. What's Donna call them, Stooge tables I think. 2 different animals.

Yes, they are counter extensions in the dinette, as far as I know. That is what ETI calls them no matter where they go. They are made with countertop material. We have another one at the foot of the bed that we might have put elsewhere.

Yes, table and counters and counter extensions will be in the design you choose, one design for all.
