If you think this winter is cold, be glad you're not in Antarctica.

Using new satellite data, scientists have measured the most frigid temperature ever recorded on the continent's eastern highlands: about -136°F (-93°C)—colder than dry ice.

The temperature breaks the 30-year-old record of about -128.6°F (-89.2°C), measured by the Vostok weather station in a nearby location. (Related: "South Pole Expeditions Then and Now: How Does Their Food and Gear Compare?")

Although they announced the new record this week, the temperature record was set on August 10, 2010

a friend posted this to facebook... It's been rough enough in Ottawa so far this year; I sure don't envy those living on the prairies.

Same here in Florida. 68 degrees (F) tomorrow, but 38 on Monday - for a high!

It's sunny in the Sacramento, CA Valley too! We need the snow in our mountains and wish we could get it from those who have the "snow load" problems.

There should be a rule against not posting your location in your avatar, makes the answer a lot more poignant.

All that is required is a change to the fields in the profile so that City and State ( or Province ) shows up.
Currently, if you fill in the State/Province field it doesn't appear.
You have to type that in the City field to have it appear.
So, until those with the power change this, I'd encourage all to add State or Province after the city in the City field.

Look's like I'll be draining my trailer tomorrow in preparation for a "blue northern". The forecast is for mornings down in the low 20's this next week in south central Texas. Our region does not do well in those temperatures.
