Found the perfect tow vehicle...

Went to the dealer yesterday for oil change in preparation of travel. While there I saw a new Ram 2500 being delivered. It has the 6.7 diesel engine, 220 amp alternator plus the 5th wheel/gooseneck towing package in the long box. Since I only have 12K miles on my 2014, they offered me $40k trade in on this $48k truck ($5k discount taken)
So, there maybe a new 5.0 TA in my future?

Welcome to the world of overkill, or are you moving on to a DRV?

Must be getting low on that propane tank.

Check the Calendar

And all I did was to tell Rita we had a flat tire when she was in a hurry this morning.

My fishing , hunting ,camping buddy has a 2015 Ram 2500 with the 6.7 liter Cummins diesel., crew cab What a great truck and tow vehicle. We towed his boat ,loaded to the top with gear
(4 to 5000 lbs ) ,to Canada last year and averaged 19.8 MPG.
It is a joy to drive and ride in and has all the power you could want
I will be trading in my 2014 Ram 1500 this fall and am seriously considering the Ram 2500 diesel.
Having to constantly tell / remind my wife that we can't take everything she wants is a PITA. I want enough payload that we can load up what want and just go without worry.
It's not for everyone .
Sounds like the kind of deal that I would not pass on..

PS : Last fall we made a trip to Jasper and Banff with him and his wife . (4500 miles total) Towing a 34 Ft 5th wheel weighting 11 to 12K lbs , he averaged 12 to 13 MPG . In the mountains or bucking a head wind he got better mileage than I did towing my 17 ft Casita with my Ram 1500 Hemi V8 .
Plus he could maintain highway speeds at all times.

that's the downside to going to a dealership instead of a oil change only place for an oil change....you have an opportunity to look at what you ain't driving...and if you make an appt for the oil change they know what you are driving and will make sure to have some nice new ones conveniently located so you can see them on the way to service checkin.
neighbor got one of those Ram diesel upgrades as his previous truck did not handle the used trailer he had well...of course with a new truck pulling an old trailer one thing led to another and now he is looking at a new and bigger trailer!...he wondered if there was a cure for this...told him to pay cash for the tug and trailer...that might slow things down.

Congrats Jim,

Does it have the Allison Transmission? That would be a great tug for the 5.0 TA. Can't wait to hear more about the truck.

Don, are you suggesting that an Allison is available? As far as I can tell, the current Ram Heavy Duty comes with Chrysler (68RFE and 66 RFE), ZF (845RE), and Aisin (AS68RC) automatic transmissions... and the 6.7 comes with only the 68RFE or Aisin, and in the online build tool it looks like the Aisin isn't available in the 2500 (only 3500 and up). So, an automatic 2500 6.7 has a Chrysler 68RFE transmission - no choice, on April Fool's Day or otherwise.

A few years ago a Ford salesman trying to sell us some enormous truck claimed that Ford pickups had a better version of the Allison 1000 transmission than GM pickups, which was supposed to be a good story because GM owned Allison. I knew that GM no longer owned Allison, and found later that Ford doesn't even use Allison transmissions in their pickups anyway. I have shopped for a car since, but didn't even visit that dealership.
Q: How do you know a salesman is lying?
A: His lips are moving.
If it isn't in a published spec sheet, it's not likely a valid specification.
