Fred's learning curve lesson #1

In reference to the bathroom:

OK...so today we moved site locations at the RV Park.

A. I drained the gray water

B. I drove slowly to the other side of the park to my new site.

Later this morning...went to wash my hands in lavatory and the towel we had on the floor was sopping wet  Wah!!! 

No signs of leaks at toilet, lavatory, vent or water shutoff valve.

What am I missing Should I have screwed on the drain stopper even though I just drained the gray water?

Help me Escape Afficionados...you're my only hope!

First - have one of those beers. Ok, then, most likely, are you sure you had the drain stopper screwed in all the way on the way to dump.?

Been there - done that. When you drain the grey tank, it doesn't get ALL the water out. There is always some left unless you could tilt the trailer way over on it's side when draining (that ain't happening ).

Take a look under the trailer at where the grey drain pipe connects to the tank - see that small amount between the bottom of the pipe to the bottom of the tank - that area always holds water.

You have two choices. Put the drain plug into the shower everytime you move the trailer or install a hepvo valve . See, you had the Casita with the hepvo so long that you forgot about the shower pan flooding!

Hepvo installation will be in another thread as soon as I get finished with the pics. NOT HERE. I tell ya, it's like herding cats! These threads can divert in a heartbeat.

There will be water in the P-trap. It's supposed to be there to stop odors.

Oops, forgot about the P-trap. I haven't had one of those for years either.

To me, screwing down the stopper seems like a lot less work that ripping off all that foam, and cutting into the plumbing, but then I'm used to it.

I agree, though to be fair we don't use the shower very much so the stopper was almost always screwed in. In fact we were so not used to opening it, we almost always had to do it a short time into the shower.

For some reason I was under the impression there was no p-trap on the shower. Was I wrong?

I thought there was P-trap in shower because of winterizing instructions:

Pour antifreeze down sink and shower drains to fill p-traps.

I've one on my 21'. By the way, it's the lowest point on the trailer. Guess what gets hit first over an obstruction.

The beauty of having a traveling partner for the past 46 years is that she willingly does the inside checklist and I do the outside list. On that inner list is close shower valve. On the outer list is dump the tanks. Works for me. Never had a problem with a wet floor.

I guess something has to be the lowest point on the trailer.

With the foam, you would not see the trap and it could easily be forgotten. I kinda like all that shiny gelcoat - gives me more to wax.

Thanks everyone! I did have a Hepvo valve on the Casita and never had to mess with the shower drain. Silly me...I need a beer!

I installed Hepvos on both my elderly Casitas and on my Bigfoot. How big a job is it on the new 17Bs? I sure wish Reace would relent and install them at least as an option.

I can understand the why. Thoer hit it on the head when he mentioned the foam undercoating. Eventually the hepvo could fail and need replacement. Without foam, it's a 10 minute job. With foam?
