Going from 17 Casita to 19" escape what to expect

I have a 19 on order and am switching from a casita spirit deluxe .

I know several other's have made this change. I wondering how you like the 19 .What do you feel are major improvements

There are lots of things I like about the escape but there a few things i like about the casita better.

1. larger bath
2. all water lines and water tank in heated area
3. tows and backs very well and good MPG towing

Things I like about the escape 19

1. larger bed 60" compared to the 54"
2. larger table
3. I hoping the wider kitchen area . I am big guy
like to be able to get past wife to get to dinette witch was hard in the casita

Have you found other advantages?

We've owners both a Scamp and a Casita and had the same kitchen / aisle space issue. In our case unless the kitchen aisle is an Escape 19 is at least 12" wider the problem will continue to exist which would mean the Escape 19 would have to be 8 ft wide or wider. Good luck , I hope the 19 works for you.

I keep thinking what some friends of mine said. They owned a 17' Casita and when looking at the 19' Escape said there wasn't enough more to warrant the expense. Only 4" wider, the bed is 6" wider (the size of a dollar bill), no more kitchen counter space. The only thing more was a bigger dinette. And the bathroom was smaller... They bought a 21' Escape and got a lot more.

Aisle width was the main reason we passed on the 19. We've had skinny before. At the time I was a little miffed that my wife said it was too narrow as I liked the 19, there was no 21 or 5.0ta at the time.

I can stand upright in the Escape 19, but not in the Casita. I believe the Escape 19' has 6'-5" of headroom and the Casita is at 6'-2".

The advantage of the 19 is that you don't have to get past your wife to get to the dinette. It's one of the main reasons that I like the 19 layout so much. I'm in and out frequently. One step inside and I'm sitting at the dinette. No passing someone working in the kitchen area required.

well we put some thought into the 21, but that would require a upgrade in truck. currently have a Toyota Tacoma

That would be us . We're so glad we held out for the 21 for all the reasons that Donna mentions. It's tough if you also have to look at a new tow vehicle (or maybe find a nice used one?). Not sure how old your Tacoma is but some folks do tow the 21 with that vehicle.

Good luck!

The bed was a major reason we sold our Casita and bought an Escaoe. The extra width was a bonus, but the real difference was a real 8” mattress instead of 4” foam. We sleep a lot better in the Escape. There are other plusses, but that was the main reason.

Double dinette, full queen bed and enough floor space for the two of us to pass each other without one having to set down. Our Goldendoodle likes it better also. He can sprawl out on the floor at night. Simply put, it seems twice as large on the inside.

Ooops. Looks like I need to update my profile from the Casita to a 2016 19' Escape.

My Tacoma has a 6400 lb tow rating and drags my 21 over hill and dale with zero problems as it weighs 4200 lbs wet and ready for the road.

The tow is probably not my last, but my 21 is definitely my last (and best) trailer.

The second generation weighs more .I thinking loaded i be 4700 , there about 4-5 hundred pounds more.I seen some post where people felt the Tacoma was just not enough, they where not happy thinking they have to buy another new truck,so i kinda stayed away from the 21 what kind of MPH you get towing?

We went from a 17' Casita Freedom Deluxe to a 19' Escape. First thing we noticed was how much more room we had, we had room to easily move past each other in the trailer, room to cook, room to eat, room to store stuff and lots of room to sleep. On paper the bathroom is smaller but the configuration and not being in a corner we don't really notice much difference. We like the windows on all sides, a little more headroom on the door (I cracked my head quite often on the Castita and have never hit it on the Escape), and never having to worry about replacing rivets or rivet caps.
It is easy to back up but I do notice more weight when pulling, I tow with a 2008 Toyota 4Runner V6, it tows the Escape fine, more power at times would be nice but not a critical requirement. Our fully loaded (with full water) axle weight is 3635lbs (don't have tongue weight yet but estimate it at about 450lbs for a total loaded weight of just under 4100 lbs)

My 4 dr 4WD long bed Taco gets 13-16 mpg. We're often in the mountains.

You are doing better than I am. My 21 weighs in at 4600 lbs, the truck bed (2016 Off Road) is loaded to capacity, and I've been averaging 10 - 12 MPG. Between Quartzsite & Sedona (a good headwind & a gain of 4000') I averaged 7.5MPG, most of the trip in 3 gear @ 4000RPM (60MPH).

Love the truck, particularly for off roading, and it was great pulling my 17, but I wouldn't choose it as the best match for a 21.

By the way, I'm not an advocate of oversized tow vehicles. I towed the Escape 17 almost 100,000 miles with a RAV4 (V6 & tow package)...

Jon it was actually your experience that had me picking a 19 over the 21. few have traveled as many miles as you towing. My new 19 loaded will weight as much as tractors1 21. I wonder how the new generation Tacoma would do with the new generation 19 escape. seems that would only be 400lbs lighter that your setup.
