Habitat For Humanity Care-A-Vanners

We've been Care-A-Vanning for three years and have found it to be a fulfilling way to help others, meet great people, spend time in new places, and be part of a dedicated team.
Signups are for two-week commitments to typically work five 6-hour days per week. Habitat sets up camping arrangements, which generally cost $0-20 per night. You don't have to have 40-footer to fit in, we do it in our Escape and before that, with a Scamp.
All skill levels are welcome. Rosemary and I have learned a lot and find Care-A-Vanning to be a great way to spend part of our winter as we Escape from the cold and snow. Check out the video below.

From the looks of the schedule, the cherry jobs get filled fast. How often do they post new openings?

Affiliates vary on when they post. If there's a time and place that interests you, it may be worth getting on a wait list as there are often cancellations.

Everything related to house construction. It pretty much depends on what needs to be done when your scheduled time comes up. We've been involved in helping clear lots, erect and secure walls, exterior sheathing, siding, tiling floors, painting, caulking, installing doors, installing cabinets, and cleanup. Electrical, plumbing, and concrete work are typically contracted. We've also done much of the same on rehabbing storm or neglect damaged houses.
Different affiliates operate differently, but they are all striving to finish houses. How much any given two-week crew gets done or not affects what subsequent crews need to do.

Thanks so much for sharing this! It is something I am definitely interested in and I had no idea about the car-avanners option in Habitat. Sounds like a great way to connect with like minded folks while enjoying travel adventures around the country...
