Having New Mattress made

I'm driving down to Rocky Mount NC tomorrow to have Southern Mattress company make a bed for my 21.
I really enjoyed the Southern Mattress I had in my Casita.
I am taking the camper to get the best fit. Price quoted was $695.
Will report on the experience when I get back.

The original mattress is too firm for us. We tried some REI camping pads on it and that helped but it was still not right.

I guess we aren't the only ones then . We have tried everything we could think of . We just can't sleep on springs . We do have lots of foam with a 2 in Latex , soft topper on top we are getting to ceiling now . Mattress has to go . Too tall hard to climb in bed . Ordered another Latex topper . Now we will have 4 in on regular foam . Down to 7-8in total height . Anyone need a almost new queen to replace , selling cheap . We thought it would be ok . It isn't a cheap mattress like in other trailers we have seen .

Allow some air room around the wall sides to keep moisture to a minimum.

How much room is needed? We have never had any moisture problems, even with our Casita and the mattress was right up against the wall. I know I need to have enough space for making the bed but I was thinking of making the new one a little bigger since the original is about 1 inch of space on each side.

If you have any issue you can always get some Hypermesh and put around it.

We have been using a short queen sleep number mattress. Works well for us.

The trip to Southern Mattress was a success. We hooked the camper up early and made the three hour drive. We tried out a Casita mattress in the showroom to see if it felt as good as we remembered and it did. Next step was all of us marching out to the camper to assess the situation. I decided to have them make it an inch wider and longer than the Escape factory mattress. Pretty quick he came back out with the base foam layer cut to size. It fit just as I wanted and then we waited in the front yard by our camper having coffee, lunch and sitting in the sun in our camp chairs. Two hours later two guys brought out a finished bed and put her in place. We really like it. It looks good, fits well and we definitely like the comfort. Tomorrow we will test it with a long nap.

I paid $725.00 for a single and a double, both with radius corners, from ETI two years ago for my 17b. I lose the front dinette when we use the single mattress and the rear dinette when we take the double mattress. We take both mattresses when taking our Grandson with us.

Was Southern Mattress able to mitre the corner like the mattress supplied by ETI?

Nice job! I asked ETI's mattress vendor Duncan Industries what the dimensions & weight was via email and got a reply. When I mentioned I was using it to build my own bed and had they considered doing a hybrid foam/latex there was no reply. Mattresses are important and most of them in RV's are not great to say the least. I think this could be a good option to have or maybe its just too finicky given differing opinions of what is comfortable.

BTW, The two corners that fit into the dinette are rounded (or radiused) not cut straight (or mitred).
