What connection or item has failed?

Good luck on the repair.

It's leaking out of the vent holes where the motor attaches to the pump body .

Bummer, on some other types of pumps that would indicate a leaking seal between the pump and the motor. Again, on some other types of pumps the seal and/or bearing is replaceable. Don't know about the Escape pump but I'll be looking at mine to see if a replacement seal to carry as a spare is an option.

I took it apart and there are two diaphragms It looks like the closest to the motor is leaking , seems to be part of piece that has the bearing in it

Good, glad to hear that it's available at a store like Home Hardware.

Have a good trip.
