Help us to spend our money

Spending other peoples money can be a lot of fun, so I thought I would start this thread for your suggestions.

Our upcoming 17B will be our first camper, so we have never had to think about stocking one before. We have an RV show coming up in Nashville in a couple of weeks, and while we of course will not be in the market for a camper, we are thinking that it may be a good opportunity to finds lots of vendors in one place.

The only things that we have already bought are a Magma cookware set, an Andersen leveler and a toaster oven. Plus we already have a Coleman cook stove from our tent camping days. And we are also getting the starter kit from Escape.

So what else should be on our shopping list? Thanks for any and all suggestions.

Jim and Larry, thanks for the list so far. I knew this was a good idea, because lots of those we've never thought of. Any more?

GPS for your vehicle, like Rand McNally for rv's which also include cgs and other attractions along the way, joining Good Sam or other organization, KOA club, good trailer road service that will take care of both you and the trailer, broom and dust pan, dish washing tray/drying.

The absolute most comfortable chair you can find/afford for sitting outside. A journal for writing down your memories. And something that is free, a sense of humor!

Actually, my advice would be to make up a wish/buying list but wait till you've been out for a while before you drop a lot of money. Of course, you'll need "the basics" but even a basic list will depend on your camping style.

The biggest thing to remember, is that all the things you will see listed will not work for you. You are best to make sure you have the basic necessities to camp in your trailer, and then figure out what best works for you after you get out and give it a go.
edit: Or what Larry just said.

Like the fact that many things Jim has listed I too use, but some I have never carried or used...... at least yet. I expect as I move to retirement my list of things to spend money on and bring will change.

I do listen to what everyone else uses, and access whether of not it might be a thing we need, but mostly only buy something after having a few times where I found I could have used it. One thing you will find, is that if you wish, you can multi-task with some items, and keep gear to a minimum.

And after all this, if you still have money burning a hole in your pocket, please do let me know, and I can send you my contact info.

A nice little portable gas grill. We like the Weber Q1200. Also a Good Sam membership is well worth the money. Discounts at Camping World, plus dump your tanks for free when there. Loren

after being out for a season, we bought a FireBowl ... propane fueled portable 'fire.'

for my $ the quick connect was a great ETI option - you have to fiddle with the propane endings to get low pressure fittings for whatever you hook to the ETI quick connect (things get technical - not a strength area of mine).

Jim's excellent "initial trailer outfitting" checklist is helpful. Post #3 in this thread. My own version is about post #34.

I do. I've had lower back surgery. Most chairs are comfortable for about 5 minutes, then I feel like a hot poker is jabbing me in the back. Consequently, I like those old fashioned aluminum web chairs. They're hard to come by now, but I sit up straight enough my back doesn't hurt and the chairs are light enough to drag around the campground during rallys. AND, one paper towel and they're dry. Unlike canvas/fabric chairs that get wet when left out in the rain or because of dew.

Then there's a Lafuma lounger. Lots of knock-offs now for the zero gravity lounger. Comfortable enough to take a nap in

Donna, I totally agree on using a firm chair, as I just hate those cheap sling ones. Our Kermit chairs fit what you describe, with the exception that they are fabric. Ours are 4 years old now, still in great shape, and still fully supportive. Fairly light, compact and portable. Heck, we stow them in our canoe to take with us for luxurious backcountry use. Beats the heck outta sitting on the ground.

Not cheap, but worth it in my books.

That's not the chairs fault. I think we were near par, or maybe a bit better when I bought them.

Great chair though, top notch quality.
