misspelling is really bad but what is even worse is the lack of punctuation marks i mean how are you supposed to easily comprehend what a person is trying to say when their entire conversation is just one big sentence i often just skip those posts because i dont want to go the effort

James (Jim) is my middle name. I get called Richard a lot by folks that don't know me but see my full name. I just suck it up and say "Yes, officer!".

I grew up with a last name that was mispronounced more often than not. Teachers, doctors offices, co-workers! You name it, I learned early to answer to almost anything. My poor son-in-law and grandgirls... I not only CAN'T pronounce their last name... I can't spell it either! Jedrzejewski. I have it written down everywhere, so when I send a greeting card I don't SCREW it up And yeah, I had to look it up to put it in this post.

The starting middle linebacker on my high school football team was from old German stock with the last name "Koch". The correct German pronunciation was "cook", like one who prepares food. But you wouldn't believe all the things he got called by the away-game public address announcers. Some improper pronunciations weren't very flattering....

I know a few Kochs. None of them say cook, one says coke, the other's all start ka and end it in a gutteral sound.

When I was in the 9th grade a new kid came into our school. His name was the same
as mine but we had different middle names and so from then on, I was David A and he was David L. He was a nice guy. Smarter than me, much better manners, a very good athlete and better looking. Died before he was 50. I’m still cooking, bad manners, bad English. Never played on a team in school and only dated one woman for the past 50 Years. Ain’t been too bad though. Call me anything, just don’t call me late for dinner.

I hesitate to tell people my last name, I have had a doctor copy my name from my birth certificate and spell it wrong. Very few people pronounce it right.

I use Doug because that is the name every one called me from my birth, when I obtained a birth certificates at age sixteen, I found out it is not my name at all.
My explanation when asked is, “ I was a slow learner”.

What is in a name .??

Went to school with a guy, good friend, from 3rd grade through high school graduation. He always went by "Clark", so that's what all of us thought that was his first name. Until diplomas were handed out on high school graduation night, and the master of ceremony called out his full name, beginning with "Rutherford"! After our collective surprise, we all understood why he had always gone by his middle name. Sadly, Clark is one of two of our graduating class of 1973 who have passed. I still miss both of them....

I was in the 4th grade when my teacher told me that my first name was James. Turned out my fathers family line had a tradition of using middle names for the boys ............

Richard is my first name, James (Jim) my second. I come from a long line of men who have James as their second name, though they were all called by their first. I have a very soon to be born grandson who will have James as a middle name too.

Being called by my middle name has had some issues, but I have learned to respond to Richard should I be called that by someone who sees my full name without knowing what I go by. I don't even bother to correct anymore, just go with a flow. It's just a name.

I have 3 first names, 3 middle names and 3 last names, you can rearrange my names in any order, like that scene in" No time for Sergeants", Stockdale, Will,.... Will, Stockdale
