Jim - we too load up with frozen food for the reasons you listed. As we pull frozen food out of the freezer we replace it with the refreezable containers from coolers. Then when we want to go out for a long day away from the trailer we can put one of more those containers in the cooler. Also, our experience has been that keeping the freezer filled helps maintain a more constant temp in the refridge as temps change outdoors.

Usually hot dogs, the original health food!
More better is our version of the last supper. Leftovers go into the dutch oven, combined with a little cheese and crumbled potato or tortilla chips. Never know what it will taste like but it's always good!

Hot dogs haven't eaten them since university when preparing them was fun. 2 nails in a board, lamp cord attached to nails, hot dog impaled on nails, pull plug before swollen hot wiener explodes. Yumm
I never worry about what somethings going to taste like. I just add lots of ketchup. Everything tastes good with enough ketchup.

Hot dogs get a bad rap. All beef kosher like Nathans, cooked over the campfire, nothing better! Wrap up some tater tots in foil and bon apetit! If I'm going to clog my arteries I figure I should have fun doing it!

Now if you want the best hot dogs, check out Hofmann's. About the only brand I'll eat. Their Coney's (a white hot dog) with onions & hot sauce (Called a Texas Hot at Rudy's Lakeside Drive In) is the true indicator of Spring in Oswego!
As to eating while on the road, I would love to say I always eat wisely, but looking over my dinners for the last couple of years, Bubba burgers seems to be at the head of the list...
My most disappointing moment was ordering a hot dog at the Vancouver Children's Festival and it came on a whole wheat bun.

It should be on a good kaiser roll, and maybe be a brat instead, eh? Lots of sauerkraut and Dijon mustard too.
Not that we never eat lousy the odd time, but it is so easy to cook good stuff, and it tastes WAY better too. There are some comfort foods that are not so healthy that I like to eat a couple times a year, like mac 'n cheese, poutine, deserts, etc.
Still working on perfecting that beer and ice cream diet. Bet I could make a fortune if I did perfect it.

Camping is an opportunity to eat bad stuff without guilt, within limits of course. Brats, ok. Cook a couple extra and put them in our leftovers pot or with scrambled eggs..yummm.
So, have chili dogs migrated across the border? I tried a chili dog in Australia, what a dissapointment. Their version of chili is a sweet concoction with hot peppers. Fail! All chili's are not created equal, Texas Pete's and Walmart's Great Value are actually pretty healthy and darn good.

We love real Wisconsin hot dogs / wieners . 100% beef , coarse ground ,in natural casing , and hardwood
smoked. We have looked for these real hot dogs in other parts of the country but all we could find are the fake hot dogs made from chicken scraps. There is a reason that good hot dogs
cost $5/ lb and the others are $1/ lb .IMHO

Or, served on a lightly steamed, poppy seed bun, lined with two slices of fried boloney. Helps to keep things intact.

Now you're talking. Being 1/2 Czech ( bottom half) I have perfected beer and chocolate cake pairings by attending lots of birthday parties over the years. Ice cream and a shot of most any liqueur isn't bad either.
Back here in Amish country, potato rolls are the standard for hot dogs or better yet, Johnsonville Brats served with onions/peppers and horseradish mustard....I may have to go get some out of the freezer.

It's not making me hungry, but all this talk is making me wish we were out camping somewhere! (BTW, today's high in central Texas is supposed to be upper 70's. Would be a perfect camping weekend.)
