Inside cabinet lighting
OK Peeps,
Dora wants lights inside the cabinets, STAT! Has anyone done a mod like this? The pressure is on me to find a solution.

I'm planning on giving it a try using a pressure door switch and led lights.

Hi Fred,
I bought my cabinet lighting (not installed yet) from Lee Valley Tools. Got an Led strip that is trimable - cut to your necessary length, and some micro switches and power splice blocks. Check out their on line catalog. Looks like an easy install. I had ETI leave 12 volt drops in all four upper cabinet corners cause I knew I would want this mod.
Interestingly, about 4 - 5 months after my order arrived, I got a letter from Lee Valley. Inside was a check for $6.00 and a note explaining that the price had come down and they were refunding me the difference. How Canadian! Check them out as obviously they are a good company. I have ordered before and have always been happy. They have great tools too.
Bet you will 'get to it' faster than me ... I don't have a scheduler like Dora in my life,
Tom

Maybe some sort of battery powered motion would work until you have time to figure out a more permanent solution. We use one of these for night trips to the bathroom mounted under the sink with command strips. When the batteries need changed I just remove and replace the batteries and reinstall. They last a year or more for us on a set of batteries but would probably be less for you. Mr. Beams makes several models.

Fred, you do this, and Dora will be so very, very happy. I know I got great praises from Lisa when I did mine. I will be doing it in my 5.0 for sure.
I used strip lighting in my last trailer, with small switches on the sides to use if needed
I have used the Lee Valley stuff Tom referred to dozens of times in kitchens I have installed. It is good stuff, and they offer nice channels and lenses to easily make them any length you like. Not the cheapest stuff, but good.
I had a look on eBay and found lots of great options there. Lots of different options that would be quick to install, and not very expensive either. Here are just a few examples. Lots of short strips with no lens, which is not necessary inside a cabinet, and lots with lenses too.
5M 10X 0.5M 5630/7020 SMD Rigid Hard Light Led Bar Strip Cool/Warm White DC 12V | eBay
5M 10X 0.5M 5630/7020 SMD Rigid Hard Light Led Bar Strip Cool/Warm White DC 12V | eBay
DIY 50CM 0.5M 12V SMD 5050 Waterproof LED Hard Strip Bar Light Tube w/ Cover Cap | eBay
Double Core Super Bright 10Pcs Hard Rigid Bar light 12V 0.5M 36led SMD8520 Lamp | eBay
I had considered the auto on switches, but nixed the idea as there would be lots of times the light is not needed, so I plan on just using a small toggle switch on the cabinet door jamb similar to the photo above. I ordered a schwack of the first one on this page.

I will be doing up a write up on whatever light I end up using.

I also used the trimble led strips, tried a few of them till I found the brightness I liked. Installed small panel switches just inside the door as I couldn't find magnetic one that would work with the doors. I only put the leds in a couple dark cabinets, the rest were fine as is.

I used this under my kitchen sink cabinet, and it's been great. I opened the cabinet around 4-5 times a day, I recharged it every 2 weeks. This is what I am gonna install when I pick up my 17B in July. Enjoy.

Go to Amazon and order these https://www.amazon.com/RTGS-String-L...s=battery+leds
they fit in my 21 along the top where the cabinet meets the headliner, squeezed into the crack, batteries last long time, mounted the switch by the cabinet opening. Also a set in red for the cubbies.

Still, much better and cheaper to avoid using batteries, especially seeing our trailers have them already.

True, but these can be installed in 5 minutes, at the next rest stop and Dora wants them yesterday.

The age old quality vs expediency conundrum. I know I may be in the minority these days, but my preference is always quality, especially when cost is the same or better.

As one ages, expediency sometimes prevails over quality, at least that is my observation for myself.

Interesting that the opposite applies to me. With quality comes pride.

I've been known to hold a small LED flashlight in my mouth when I'm poking through a dark closet or cabinet! Isn't it nice we have choices and they all essentially accomplish the same thing.

...been known to do the same. I did put a good quality stick-on puck light in the hanging clothes cabinet that I just pushed on to turn on and off.

Be careful though Donna, you could hurt your teeth. Besides, this can help justify your flashlight hoarding obsession?

Back in the olden days we used headlamps to free up both hands.

I've used the leds that come on a roll and snap switches from LeeValley.
You cut off a length of lights and solder some wire to it and cover it with heat shrink. Run the wires to the switch and then on to some power point.
Under the seats there are 12v receptacles and all sorts of other 12v wires to tap into.
The above cupboards can pickup the 12v from the under cupboard reading lights.
To save complicated wiring and such under the sink cupboards are one long continuous length of leds snaking across all of the cupboards with just one switch on the bottom cupboard door.
