There were about 8 of us that trip, and we put it on one of the pulks (sleds). It is a handy tool when deep in the backcountry, just so long as it is easy to get in.
BTW, this was a ways west of the Upper Kananaskis Lake. It was also about 30 years ago.
I do take a small splitting axe with a 2 lb head in the trailer, for splitting firewood.

Oh well .... guess that means we can't ask you to demonstrate wood splitting with a machete then......

I don't even have a machete any more. I know some guys who do use one, or a bit knife, and just tap it through a round with another chunk of wood.

As does a screw driver, kitchen knives, and a samurai sword...

The IMDB link is broken, but I get the idea... There are lots of uses for machetes, but I'm sure I'd find more non-violent ones around a campsite than at home!

It is very mild here in the Midwest and I have a new unused snow blower sitting in the garage. But our weatherman who is quite accurate on long range forecasts says a huge Arctic air mass is coming down by the fifth of Feb. and will last for 3 weeks. Spring isn't here yet. Robert from Texas is waiting until late March to go get his 19 and I think that is playing it smart. Loren

Yeah, it kinda sucks. All the beautiful snow is melting. Things are getting yucky...
Let winter be winter, I say.

While we haven't had anywhere near our normal snowfall (should be 66" by now & we have only had 41") it has been cold. Some more photos of Lake Ontario, the ice is getting higher:

There's only 56" at the base of Mt. Baker right now...doesn't even compare with the 95 feet of snow that fell on Mt. Baker the winter of '98/'99. That was a record setter.
