Back to the pedestal support... We decided to go with the pedestal as Escape allowed us to make the change without incurring the normal $200 change fee. Another Yay for Escape!!

I like the idea of adjusting the height for laptop or other use and definitely having a more stable table. And I read in another thread where the poster suggested lowering the table for travel. For us that's another in a string of reasons to get the pedestal. Oh and I saw suggestions elsewhere for getting a coupon from Overton's to reduce the price. This is an awesome forum!

Jill - which pedestal are you using?

Jill, I hadn't really thought about the specific application with a stock dinette and full sized table, but here's an idea. If you mount the table to the sliders so that the table slides front to back instead of side to side, this will allow the table to rotate left or right if you slide it forward. That might be a better way to ingress/egress the seats. I wouldn't be sure of course until I saw it for real.

The good news is that you can easily change the way it slides from side to side or back to front.

A two way slide plus rotation would be ultimate.

I agree. The magic table (Cosmo) base has been mentioned on here a few times, and I know that one is a 4 way slider. Trouble is, the pedestal for it is not round, but elliptical, and I think that means it doesn't rotate. If the makers of the magic table would sell just the table base (I think they do) and you could mount that to any pedestal, you'd have 4 way sliding and rotation. Would be too pricey for me though, with the cost of the Springfield pedestal combined with the Cosmo base.

Just thinking here, but what would be more advantageous, a one-way slide and it rotating, or a two-way slide. I almost think the latter. Have you, or anyone else, found the rotation to be a great advantage? Not having actually ever used that feature, to me it almost seems a bit awkward, especially with a larger table.

More research to do, as that Cosmo Pedestal does look nice, and I had forgotten about it. I like the idea of the pull-out leafs shown in this video.

I think the rotation is the best part. I usually just turn the table to get in and out. Plus, it's very stable- much more than the "anthills and poles".

I guess a guy could buy the rotating pedestal, and the 4-way slide mechanism to use instead of the Escape one.

Right, but as I mentioned before, the 4 way sliding top would run almost 300, and the pedestal too. Ouch.

Maybe I could build my own slide mechanism.
