Re: looking for the ultimate road trip songs

the songs (and groups) offered up in this thread were so great i decided to put together a "playlist" - If you are interested, and have itunes, then follow the link below to the songs - I put them (and selections that I felt were good road songs from the folks that listed groups rather than songs) in an imix called "the Great Escape Playlist". The are available for purchase, collectively or individually, through itunes. They are also listed, in case anyone is interested.

Sorry Reace - no AC/DC on itunes - so it's a tribute song ("Highway to Hell") by a different band.

I even got some Pavarotti in there.

Cheers,
Dirk

I was going to check out the list, regrettably it's not offered on the US Apple Store.. Must be those crazy customs apple agents trying to protect the border from nefarious playlists or something like that..

Re: looking for the ultimate road trip songs

Interesting - not what I would have expected - all the containers are sealed......

Here's the list I came up with (based on suggestions in this thread).....

On the Road Again, Willie Nelson
Radar Love, Golden Earring
Alan Watts Blues, Van Morrison
So What, Pink (thanks Tammy)
King of the Road, Roger Miller
Tacoma Trailer, Leonard Cohen
Jailbreak, The Immigrants (an AC/DC cover)
Just Can't Get Enough, Depeche Mode
A Forest, The Cure
The Beach, New Order
I Can See for Miles, The Who
Freddie Freeloader, Miles Davis
Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Di, The Beatles Revival Band (no Beetles on iTunes)
Heading for the Light, The Traveling Wilburys
End of the Line, The Traveling Wilburys
Smell of Coffee, Greg Brown
Lazybones, Leon Redbone
Tuesday Afternoon, The Moody Blues
Fishin' in the Dark, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
Carry On, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
Your Back Yard, Burton Cummings
Copperhead Road, Steve Earle
Goodbye Earl, Dixie Chicks
Highwayman, Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson, Waylon Jennings & Willie Nelson
Born to Move, Creedence Clearwater Revival
Long Dark Road, The Hollies
My Way, Bill Miller, Frank Sinatra, Luciano Pavarotti

That's good for the first 1.8 hours of the drive.
Cheers,
Dirk

Re: looking for the ultimate road trip songs

And for when you are starting out on your trek, begin with Radar Love by Golden Earring. It will get you up to speed in no time.

Re: looking for the ultimate road trip songs

Hi Donna, Thanks. Its one of them list that blend into the back ground when you have a few friends around the campfire and some good conversation. A bit of this and that. The pod goes on a Sony portable dock and runs for over 6 hrs. on one charge. We have 2 or 3 play list on it. Can even put it in the cab of the truck when out in the boonies.

Re: looking for the ultimate road trip songs

There really is no ultimate song list that would suit everyone. Heck, even I change up a lot of the time. I listen to just about everything but not too much 'Kiss Your Horse' music, and 'Techno Bop' kinda stuff. I like most forms of rock from any era, though not too big on some pop stuff. I loves rhythm, blues and jazz, and can even take some good classical when the time is right.

I have too many songs on my iPod, about 8,000, but can always find something to keep me entertained.

Oh, and when sitting around the campfire playing guitar, absolutely anything goes.

Re: looking for the ultimate road trip songs

Belatedly I must add to this topic the CD "The Music of the Grand Canyon" by Nicholas Gunn. It's not songs to sing, but fabulous and dramatic mood music, good for driving to the Grand Canyon or for that matter, any of the national parks of the western U.S.
