Microbrews

On second thought, I'd have a hard time living that far away from all the yummy microbreweries down here in the US & particularly the central TX area & especially the (512) Brewing Company conveniently located close to our neighboUrhood approx 2 miles away.

How are you set for microbreweries in the Calgary area?
I sure wish there was a way we could make it to the Escape Rally to bring some tasty local brews to share.
But I digress...

Microbrews

Lots of good local beer, and some good stuff from other provinces too. Remember, we are a decade or two ahead of the US in producing good beer.

Microbrews

Brad - Austin used to have one great brewery- Celis. It was started by the guy who brought the Belgian White style beer back in Belgian. Then he moved to Austin and built a state of the art brewery and made incredible Belgian style beers. But then Miller bought him out and quickly ran it under and out of business. A sad loss.

Wow - the Michigan Brewing Company apparently bought the rights to brew Celis beer. I may have to make a trip to Michigan to try it out!

Re: Microbrews

Decided to give this thread a bump! With the wealth of discerning tastes that have purchased these trailers that take us all over the Continent, it would be a good idea to share with each other our favourite discoveries in the world of microbreweries.

If you come over to Victoria B.C. on Vancouver Island we have some amazing little breweries here. Off the top of my head I'd recommend Hoyne Brewing http://hoynebrewing.ca/, Phillips Brewing http://phillipsbeer.com/, Vancouver Island Brewing http://www.vanislandbrewery.com/defa...px?PageID=1000, Driftwood Brewery http://driftwoodbeer.com/home/, these are just some examples.

I've heard of an IPA made in California by the Russian River Brewery called Pliny the Elder, http://russianriverbrewing.com/brews/pliny-the-elder/, hopefully we'll be in that area next month and I'll finally get to try it!

Cheers or Slainte Mhath

Re: Microbrews

Pliny the Elder is well worth the taste! I took a chance on the strength of the name alone while in some now-forgotten cantina in that area, and remember liking it.

If while in California you make it as far down as Santa Cruz, we have a great little pub in town called 99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall (http://www.99bottles.com/). While P the E is not on their menu, they do have lots of other microbrewed selections. Good food, too.

: OMG. Pliny the Elder is an awesome beer for IPA lovers, my husband, I am more of a Belgian beer lover..

We were on a Beercation this summer and went to Russian River Brewery a few times...well worth it AND we brought home a case of Pliny.

Next summer we hope to venture further south on our Beercation!

Oh yes and Portland is absolute Beervana!

Beercation
Beervana

Now that sounds like fun!!!!

I certainly agree about Portland being a place to find some quality beers. A little beer and wine store up the street from me specializes in getting some interesting IPA's, (my favourite by far), they sell an IPA called Gigantic from Portland, very grapefruity and well worth a try! Oregon used to be the biggest producer of hops in the world, now they're just one of the biggest!

Given what I believe is the relaxing nature of RVing, I hope to do some experimentation over the next month, maybe finding a few more favourites!

Cheers,
Glenn

Re: Microbrews

Glenn...
if you do get down to the Santa Rosa Cali area there are a couple of good micro brews to check out. in Healdsburg there is Bear Republic...and many wine tasting rooms. In Petaluma there is Lauginitas and of course Russian River in Santa Rosa.
Our plan had been to see and experience Napa Valley but it became a Beercation ending with the Oregon Brewers Fest in Portland!
cheers Janet 8)

Re: Microbrews

If you're ever in Portland, Oregon and are a beer lover... a trip to Belmont Station is a must do! I'll be going by next weekend to pickup a six pack of something yummy for the Fall NOG beer exchange.
