Re: My fiver

Getten closer!! If your fiver has entered the assembly stage, my unit should only be four units behind yours. Ours should be in the shop when you pick yours up.

That makes them eggs from the same nest (similar genetics but different fathers??
I guess the metaphor falls apart after a while )

Hey, my students are still in school until the 3rd week in June. Whatzup??

cheers,

Gord (aka "CaptSurviveYourTeenYears" aka "Alternate Program Teacher")

Re: My fiver

Hello,

I'm excited for you. Are you driving to pick your new trailer up?

I'm curious about the paperwork needed to make the trailer legal for VA. Any Tips?

Post Pictures of your trip.

Best Regards,

TurtleBax

Re: My fiver

TurtleBax,
Got my tag, registration and title today. Tammy sent me everything I needed to walk into the DMV pay my $800+ and walk out again in about 20 minutes. I had already picked up the DMV form I needed and filled that out at home. It could not have been easier. The only thing that didn't work the way I planned was due to the change in rules for a permanent tag. No longer available for travel trailers.
Yes, we are driving. I thought about having it delivered, but the cost is about the same and we get to visit BC and the new Escape "factory". And since we both teach, we have plenty of time to make the trip. Because we will be visiting family, we will hit all the border states except California, Arizona, New Mexico, and maybe Oregon.

Dick

Oh YES!
Question: How much useable space is there in the truck bed when the trailer is hooked on? I am trying to plan what I can carry back there.

Re: My fiver

Hi: captmath...That depends on what you're packing and how big the box of your truck is. In our former shortbox GMC we had a Delta locking tool box that sat down in the truck bed. That was storage for wet/dirty items. In the rear of the box we carried leveling blocks and sundry pieces of kindling and a tote box of firewood. Now the first question they ask at the gate of a Provincial Pk. is "Do you have any firewood"? It is illegal to transport across county boundarys... due to them wanting to sell their own wood.(aka Emerald Ash borer)
So far we have not yet found exactly what type of box to fit in the new tug... but I'm looking!!! Alf

Thanks.
I've got the 6-foot bed, so mostly I am wondering if I can put half- or full-height storage boxes between the hitch and tailgate. I also have a roll-up hard cover, so I can't use that space for a locking toolbox.

Re: My fiver

Hi: captmath...We have the Nissan fold forward tonneau/w aluminium frame. We can fit a small tool box in the front of the box but size really does matter. I can't remember the formulae for Sq. root so I just eyeball it!!! Don't know a Cm. from a Mm. so I use my trusty 12' inch marked tape measure.
The blue/grey 25 gal. tote in the pic. has snap lock lid handles, wheels and a tow handle. It is the largest size (171/4"HX31"LX15"W) we could find. You can put small padalocks on the rim of it. I haven't tried it in the box but I'm sure it would fit between the hitch and the tailgate. The fold down BBQ, water hose and campmat all fit in it.
Now we have to get a Grands toy tote for Aylens stuff + the dogs bean bag bed too!!! This summer camping will be busier. Alf

Re: My fiver

Hi CaptMath,

Thanks for the response and tips on the tagging & Registration for your new Escape (Woo Hoo). I was afraid it would be a bit of a nightmare. (hrs sitting in the DMV).

I'm trying to decide if we will drive, have the trailer shipped or some combo. We won't have quite as much time as you. I have a bit of time to decide as I haven't even ordered one yet.

Please post pictures of the new trailer and your adventure.

Would love to see your new trailer if possible, upon your return.

Best Regards,

TurtleBax

Hi Dick,
I don't know if you can tell from the picture, but there is quite a bit of space between the floor of the truck and the trailer...a full height storage box is fine. You just have to remove it before you unhook the trailer. I use the aluminum box for storing tools and water hoses, and stinky slinkys, and the such. Everything else you carry in the back is subject to getting wet unless it's in a closed container (and the top doesn't blow off).
The 2nd picture is site #22 at Bear Creek Lake State Park, Cumberland County (above Farmville) last night. Beautiful!

How I wish we were able to do that trip too! What is you pick up date in Chilliwack? Going Northern route then back central or south? You will have a ball...take lots of pictures, and make lots of memories. One of the places we loved the most on our way back was Arches National Park. If close, check it out, and camp at the Park if any openings. It's dry (on each site) so you will need to top off the water tanks.

Re: My fiver

We pick up on the 27th. Stopping in Gainesville, FL and Lafayette, LA on the way and then on to Rhode Island. I think we hit every border state except NM, AR, CA, maybe OR, and New England north of Connecticut. I hope gas keeps trending down. We won't be doing much camping on the way North. KOA Kabins maybe?
Started packing the truck this afternoon. I think we have too much.

Re: My fiver

Speaking of packing: What's the Chilliwack weather like the end of Jun - early July? Do I need to pack warm?
