Like Anna-Marie, we too just squish the rolls to make them ovate in shape. Paper still comes off fine when pulled, but no unravelling when in transit.

That one in the photo is not mine, but one very similar. I think ours has a bit of play, but it works just fine. I know we have a couple double hooks that hang this way that have a bit of foam padding on them.

I put our holder on the left side of the door above the bench seat; it's out of the way, but still handy for the kitchen or a quick grab from outside. However, I believe that Escape now puts the fire extinguisher there.

thanks for all thr great ideas! Barry's concern is using the double sided tape .Have you had any problems with the tape buggering up the *wood * surface?

I would think it would be on there permanent. The vinyl veneer on the plywood would likely peel off if you were to try to remove it.

I used regular hardware store quality double-backed tape to hold my paper towel holder too. If you heat the taped area with a hair dryer and then CAREFULLY and slowly pry it loose from the wall, you won't damage the 'oak.' If you used VHB tape, you better be happy where it is now because it's going to be there forever!

Hi: All... Maybe the ideal "Paper towel solution" is to not do anything that requires "The quicker pickerupper". What did we do before paper towels were invented?
I think I read somewhere that they began from a batch of too firm T.P. OUCH!!! Alf

As I am like Glenn and don't want holes, I got a magnetic one from Amazon. I put it initially on the side of the hood, but since the towels block the window a bit, I now have it stuck to the back side of the range cover (I don't use my stove top, I zap stuff.) It works for me there and doesn't move when I travel. I have the hooked utensil holder on order.
Amazon.com: Better Houseware 2406 Magnetic Paper Towel Holder, Stainless: Home & Kitchen
They have other magnetic ones as well.

Here's another idea. Use a small curtain tension rod in one of your cabinets, positioned close to the top (which is often wasted space anyway) and hang the paper towel roll on that. It's better illustrated here: Creative Paper Towel Storage | Alejandra.tv.

The other thing I like about this solution is that no rivets or other hardware are required.
