New Egg Camper

A Slovakian company will be introducing a new line of egg campers in the coming year. In design since 2008, the urban eggs will eventually get a set of wheels. This could take boondocking to new levels.

Here is a link to the story.

I want to see the look in Reace's face when someone asks for the "wind turbine" option.

I guess the black water just dribbles down the slope. Won't be a lot of it though cause there is no surface area to collect rainwater.

This would actually be an easy thing to do, and is already done on a few RVs. There are quite a few wind generators that charge 12V systems. A simple removable mast is all that would be needed to mount it. Storage when not in use may be a bit of a hassle though.

Some folks talk about lots of wind where they camp, and if it is cloudy, this might just be a good option.

Though, maybe not one Reace wants to explore.

Love the idea of boondocking on a mountain top in relative comfort, not sure about how it would play out in other situations over a FGRV.

Would love to see how quiet their turbine is.

I've had one on an offshore boat. From below deck it sounded like a Cessna taxiing on deck. Even though it was turning sometimes output was low. They work but now, for me, with solar, there wouldn't be any going back to wind.

New Slovak trailer

Seems there's not too much new under the sun. The Iowa based firms of wincharger and wind power were making wind powered chargers back in the 20s. They were used to power farm electrical systems and to charge car batteries etc. A good friend of mine has one that was made in Newton, Iowa before the war. WWII. The final tie together is that my friends last name is Votroubek , very Czech, Slovak, Bohemian, Moravian or whatever. My home town of Cedar Rapids is home of the National Czech and Slovak Museum. Worth the visit if you ever get out this way. Vitame' Vas'. Czech for "We welcome you".

It's interesting that although it has been in design for seven years, and a prototype exists, they can only show computer renderings - no real unit. It's also interesting that something the size of an Escape 17' weighs - without any running gear (axle, brakes, wheels, tires, tongue, coupler) - almost as much empty as the roadworthy Escape is allowed to weigh fully loaded with half a ton of water and cargo.

Let's hope they can eventually actually build something of value. They're not there yet...

No rain, no water, no black and grey disposal, no wheels. It's green.
Wait, it's white. Why are you so negative?

It looks like something you'd see in an old Popular Science mag. "Pod of the future" or something. Or, the promotional hype from a company trying to get people to invest in them.

ETI is missing out on a possible profit center. They should emulate them. Oh, you want your pod to be mobile, for a few extra thousand you can buy the wheel option.
