Re: New Escape Forum

Looking forward to "escaping"

Hopefully in the spring, we are waiting for a new 15' and this will really help to decide just what modifications I "need" and just have to have!!!!!

For now the only "escape" we have is our new tow vehicle..

(just changed it as I put 15" trailer---uhhh NOT that small!!!)

Re: New Escape Forum

That would be great to put up the how to demo. The dvd we have is not that user friendly so a link to this site would be much easier.

Re: New Escape Forum

Yup. The DVD contains a 30 minute video. Only way to move that over the internet is to an FTP site or cut it up into manageable chunks for Quicktime.

Re: New Escape Forum

Lookin' good Jeff.

I'm looking forward to getting ideas for others, both current and future owners, on the mods they are looking at, and their reasons for doing them, as well as tweaks and changes they make after taking possession.

I am looking forward to being an owner of the new 19' plan early next year, and need to decide what all I want to do to it to make it work best for me.

Hi: All... Just registered and I like the idea of an Escape forum. Since we sold our Boler I don't feel qualified to post on Bolerama...but I still do!!!

Re: New Escape Forum

Heh Escape Artist,
HokieEscape here (Dan Thompson, in Blacksburg, VA - home of the Va Tech Hokies - Orange Bowl bound Jan 1). Our new 5.0 is out of the mold, and in process as we email. My wife and I are flying to Seattle on March 25 to take possession of a '09 Nissan Frontier, then hook up in Chilliwack the 26th, then off across the US to Virginia beginning the 27th. Giving ourselves til Easter Sunday to get home. I see that you have a 5.0. What advise would you give us as new 5.0 owners? We've had a 17' Casita up until now, so 5th wheeling will be new.
Everyone else, any advise on how to get back across American during the 1st 2 weeks of April. Favorite routes, places to stay, strategy of how to get across the mountain passes, and what to do it they're closed Looking forward to input and becoming another Escape Artist with our HokieEscape.

Re: New Escape Forum

Hi: HokieEscape...(Dan); as much as you enjoyed your 17'er I promise you will enjoy the 5.0 more. I was afraid to unhook "Our Escape Hatch" the first time out...but found out it is easier than our Boler was. I'm sure that Reace& Tammy will take all the time you need to get comfortable with your new Trailer. We did not have that pleasure as we bought used from the original owners here on the N.S. of Lake Erie. We have almost all the options avail. and haven't used them all but have enjoyed the trailer 100%+++. My only wish is to be retired and able to spend more time away with the trailer...oh and by the way...get used to people in all places wanting to have a look and even caress the trailer on the spot!!! When setting up in camp grounds you can almost time the arrival of the neighbours with a stop watch Enjoy your trip and we look forward to your reports!!!

Re: New Escape Forum

Hi Alf and Sandra,
No, not planning on making it to California. Another trip perhaps. Our plans are to take off across Washington, Idaho, Montana, down into South Dakota (gotta go see the Presidents), then head south through Indiana, Kentucky, West Virginia, and then home to Southwest Virginia. Know I left somebody out between South Dakota and Indiana Missouri maybe
Alf , I know you are right about the 5.0 attracting onlookers! I had that with our Casita. You could hardly gas up without someone coming over to investigate. And I know it will be even more so with the Escape. But, I loved to show our Casita de Hokie, and I know I'll love to show our HokieEscape! Let me ask a couple practical questions. Do standard Queen sheets fit the bed OK? Does the shower already have a curtain or just a rod, or nothing? Nothing in the literature says.
I sold our Casita just before Thanksgiving (put it on the street in front of my office and it was sold within 24hrs), and looking at the pictures of some of the winter camping by Dirk, makes me miss it ... we want to get out and build a campfire, enjoy a cup of coffee, and look at the stars. Nothing like camping! Looks so vacant out back with no camper.
Merry Christmas to all from down South.

Re: New Escape Forum

Hi: HokieEscape(Dan); The previous owners had the mattress changed out and bought their own... a 8"thick standard 60"X80" memmory foam one from Canadian Tire. It fits with a slight incline at the head end and we enjoy it more than our 6" thick foam mattress at home. I get a better sleep in the trailer and our sheets etc from home fit it fine...snif snif it's in storage for the winter There was a shower curtain in the bathroom that covers the door area...but we put a rubbermaid bath mat on the floor to step on...it's a lot warmer on the bare feet for those night trips to the loo...gotta love that front to back sleeping arrangement as no climb over required!!!
Sounds like you will be hitting all the hot spots on your trip back East and you'll love the "don't even know it's back there" tow...Get a teflon plate for the hitch pin...it's a lot less messy than using grease like the big rigs. I don't know if they come with one or not but ours had one on when we got it.

Re: New Escape Forum

Heh Escaper (Alf),
We had put a Tempur-pedic in our Casita, and like you, loved it. That's what we have at home, so it was like being home, except we could hear the crickets!!!! May have to do the same with this one. It looks like the 5.0 inclines slightly to the front. The standard mattress must have a wedge effect. Well, better to have your head a little higher anyway.
The front to back is a BIG reason we are going 5.0, so I don't have to crawl out over top of my beautiful bride early in the AM. Although, that's not ALL bad : - ) The other reason was so we could carry two grandkids at a time with us (have 11 of them), and use the table for a bed when needed, plus more room when we don't have them.
The teflon is a great tip!!!! Exactly what I was looking for.
In the b'room, try some dri-deck sometime. We had their grates in our Casita, and it was great. Kept your feet off the floor, dried quickly, and kept our shoes from damaging the floor when we used the restroom at other times.
If you think of any other "jewels", send them on.

Re: New Escape Forum

Hi: HokieEscape Dan...We are still getting used to the 5.0 as we had a ' 77 Boler 13' first and it was really cosy. The only advantage with it was not having to get out of bed to turn on the coffee maker!!! Is it too late to ask Santa for a timer

Re: New Escape Forum

Hi: HokieEscape...Dan; I just thought of another tip. My mind is going south...I just wish I was too!!! Ask Reace about a dual/fuel water heater. It takes up no more room, and the Elec.+ propane sure helps save the propane, for the furnace... when plugged into a current bush at a campsite!!!
