New Mexico weather

In April and early May I encountered plenty of rain and some snow when I was in New Mexico (and whined about it on this forum). In his great travel blog Jon Vermilye mentioned it raining on him as he passed through the state in October and November. And now I see that there is record snowfall in eastern New Mexico, in Clovis and Roswell, places I visited in the spring.

So, New Mexicans, was 2015 a record year for precip? It must be close to it. Are your reservoirs full? They were almost full when I was there in the spring; the only ones not full then were the ones I didn't visit. It sounds like New Mexico had a good year in this regard.

We're heading to north-central New Mexico on January 12 and were planning on staying at Storrie Lake State Park while on the way to Big Bend NP. I have my fingers crossed that the 6 foot-plus drifts are melted out of the campsites by then.

From what I remember the sites with hookups are closer to the park entrance, so maybe they will be cleared off by then. Bet it doesn't look like this now. Good luck.

I am headed to Eagle Nest NM on Jan 2nd for an elk hunt and watching the weather.
Living in NW Wiaconsin it's hard to fathom that I have
to drive South to find bad winter weather.

Steve, just come on down to our area of WI - we just got about a foot of new snow Monday.

Well yeah, we did get a little snow here this week. Probably just enough in my back yard, 24 inches, to give folks along Lake Erie a good laugh but it did close the Interstate (I-40 all the way to Texas).

Pretty mountains, eh? They don't plow our street.

We only got a few inches of snow from the last storm.
Our Lake is almost covered with ice (finally) and they are out ice fishing in the bay. It really doesn't feel like winter here. No below zero temps yet. Day time temp are almost balmy . Only 4 more months and winter will be over and we can get the trailer out and go camping again.

The few reservoirs I camped near in NM on my trip to the southwest in October were, according to the campground hosts, full.

As to the weather, I'm currently in Quartzsite, AZ, and it is much cooler than the last time I was here (in 2014). 23°F this morning! From what I've heard, the entire Southwest is cooler than normal this year. I guess I picked the wrong year to drive out here to get away from an Oswego winter. So far it has been warmer at home for all but 3 days since November! Sure hope things improve for Jan & Feb...

Nice photos. I like that last one. Beautiful. Glad I wasn't going that way. Surprised to hear that they closed I-40. Wonder how often they do that.

Hi: MyronL... "Thanks for the memories". I've all but forgotten what we've had in the pictured past. This year it's "The green green grass of home"!!! Alf

Alf I think I recognize that trailer, but it's hard to tell. Only has a bit of snow on it now, I've cleaned it off twice already, trying to keep it ready to leave Jan. 17 we hope.

Myron, you did get a lot of snow! Friends of ours just sent a pic of their place in Las Cruces, certainly not as much snow as you. We hope to visit them on Feb. 5, hope it's warmer by then.

Las Cruces is only at 3900'. Myron is close to 7000'. Still, Las Cruces can have below freezing temperatures. It is possible to stay in winter but depends more on the year, and this year looks worse than usual.

I recognize it, Adrian. It's yours! We should have shown you ours but you left early. If you are by this way, let us know.

Wow, Myron, should have stayed in Sedona a bit longer.

I remember two Thanksgivings ago on our way to Ft Worth, we were stranded behind the Cracker Barrel in Las Cruces in a white out and I-10 was closed to El Paso. Go figure, but we had good food available with a short walk.
