Me and two buck chuck will just go ahead and sit in the corner at a special table with my *foldable* plastic wine glass at the potlucks.

I know you are trying to be funny, but some people who come from Appalachia might not think it was so funny. We should respect our heritages.

I think one of the greatest abilities a person can have is the ability to laugh at themselves. Our society is far too PC for it's own good. Most folks I know from Appalachia, or the Ozarks, or any other so-called "hillbilly" area would laugh right along.

If I ever get offended at a cultural pun directed at me, I might as well hang it up.

Say What?

Sorry, but you totally lost me on that. Not sure how making myself look not too bright disrespects anyone. I don't even have any idea where the Appalachia is either.

Your post came up while I was posting.

I was laughing at myself with my post, thought everyone would see that. I have heard of the Ozarks, but all I said is I wasn't a hillbilly. Still not sure what I am missing here. Could it be this Canucklehead (no disrespect meant to other Canadians here ) is getting slow as he ages.

Jim, it should be on your bucket list. The Appalachian Mountains extend from Maine all the way to Georgia - and they're just beautiful. They're the "oldest" mountains in North America, while the Rockies are the "youngest". Certain Appalachian communities are very poor, with a lack of industry, opportunity or education - and it's kind of the origin of the idea of the hillbilly.

I should have put two and two together. I definitely have heard of the Appalachian Mountains, and will definitely be touring that way once retired. I just assumed hillbilly was a term used generically, just as redneck is. Was Deliverance by chance set in this area? Great movie!
