Newbie Camping Gear List

At the request of a few forum members, I'm posting the list of what we purchased and are taking with us to equip our new 19. It is by no means complete. The list doesn't include most household items, cups, plates, silverware, linens, towels, bedding or the like. It also doesn't include items we shipped to ETI to be installed during our build, like the 4G antenna, Sleek Cradle, etc. Following the advice of several veteran campers, we only bought things we knew we would need or use. Several dozen that were on the "wish list" were later deleted.

And no, there is no ATV or Sailboat on the list.

Today, I picked up "Velcro ONE-WRAP Roll. It's 12' X 3/4"
You cut to the length you need. Hooks on one side and loops on the other, so it will stick to itself.
I'll be using it to wrap the awning arms, when closed, for extra security.

Paper to create a JOURNAL.. where you parked (where you wished you parked [site number]... camera. Take a picture of your TOW (Ten Forward...) with something that shows up every single time (my special garden nome placed by the passenger side landing gear).

Eventually, every thing becomes a memory. If you create a journal, in your old age (no longer GO), you can sit back/read/see and enjoy those times...

Start that journal from the very FiRST trip. It doesn't take long.. mere moments. But those thoughts can become priceless...

Good for you Robert! You are paying attention. This is not my original thoughts, it's coming from my 90+ year old mother. She's hammered into my brain, how important it is to DOCUMENT your travels. Everyone thinks they'll remember... no.

Just go through a box of printed pictures... and try to remember the names of everyone. I hate to know, those names where on the tip of my tongue (last year, last decade) and now...

Document today for what you want to remember tomorrrow.... honestly. If you do this, you'll have no regrets.

One thing you can do too, is to get just what you know you will need, and worry about the things you think you might need later. Go camping, and see what you will need. If you have not done any trailer camping, you need to give it a go and see what fits your style. Everyone's needs are different. If you have the basic trailer gear, most of which comes with the trailer, add some pots and pan and some clothes, bring along some food, and you will survive nicely.

At first blush that looks like quite a list. However when I read through it I see that we have pretty much everything that you've listed, just different brand names. It took us quite a few trips though before we managed to accumulate all those items.
So good job preparing.

Don't buy anything based on someone else's needs! Actually you can get by pretty easily. Bedding (whatever that is for you), cooking/eating stuff (whatever that is for you.. including disposables) and safety equipment (that could include specialzed equipment, etc.)

That first trip for me... was to sleep well, eat well, and have a zero account AMEX card (for emergencies). YMMV

The Camco vent insulator will not work in the Escapes, made for thicker ceiling and recessed vents. I have one in the garage collecting dust. The velcro tape Glenn mentioned is vip safety measure.

Something else to include is a small assortment of tools, fuses, duct tape, etc. for those unexpected maintenance needs. I've found a small plastic tackle box can hold a multitude of miscellaneous items.

There are some acrylic ones that work just fine, as they don't absorb odours at all. We have some stainless ones that work good, but mostly I used a good glazed ceramic tumbler. It also works great for coffee, beer and cocktails. It comes with a silicon lid and a neoprene sleeve to keep coffee warm.

I'm just as shocked. I thought that I was the only low brow who loved Timmie's coffee. Even better now with the roll up the rim contest on

Gee, I'm beginning to get the impression that this forum is heavy with a bunch of wine and coffee snobs!
Next thing, someone will be saying it's not OK to drink wine from a screw capped bottle which is disguised within a brown paper bag, or to put a pinch of instant coffee between the cheek and the gum!!!

Might also be wise to get a 25-foot 30amp extension cord and a second drinking water hose as on rare occasions they may be needed. Not all campground connections are where they should be and Wally World or Camping World may not be conveniently located.

Good list, the part numbers and such will help those starting out.

I do agree with Jim B in suggesting that those just starting out should get the basics and that which they know they need and add things as you go. We've always kept a shopping list. Much depends on your style of camping, are you a traveler or a sit in one spot camper.

When on the road, and wanting a quick coffee, I will stop at Snortin' Tim Horton's for a quick cup. Though not wildly flavoured, it is not terrible either. At least the beans are not overroasted like Charbucks. Plus, I can get a toasted bagel with cream cheese there. Never, never any of their gross doughnuts though, yuck!

There are some great coffee shops out there, but they are few and far between, and you usually have to know of them, as they are rarely along the major thoroughfares.
