Re: Our "Neck of the woods!!!"

To think we towed our 17B up Mt. Rainier as far as you can go May 2010. Awesome photo.

Re: Our "Neck of the woods!!!"

Not quite as impressive as Mt. Rainier (we also drove up as far as possible on Christmas, 1969).

Oswego's Lighthouse. Sits at the mouth of the Oswego River where it enters Lake Ontario.

Great shot. But, now you have to explain just what I'm looking at.

Was it being shelled?

Re: Our "Neck of the woods!!!"

No shooting - just a little wave on the lake!

This is what it looks like when there are BIG waves:

Re: Our "Neck of the woods!!!"

I caught myself just before I commented on how high the tide was in that shot.

But that got me wondering how much the water level varies in the Great Lakes.

Ron:

Here is a link with some information about Great Lakes Tides:

http://www.great-lakes.net/teach/cha...100_tides.html

Says tides are 1 to 4 cm. I would guess that is hardly noticeable.

Re: Our "Neck of the woods!!!"

No tides to speak of, but some serious waves. It is not unusual to have 35' - 40' waves during storms. The Coast Guard keeps 2 of their 47' "Roll Over" MLB boats here in Oswego. Here they are in action:

Re: Our "Neck of the woods!!!"

I have been to the great lakes many time.
Summer and winter.
It is hard to believe that lakes can be that BIG.
Beatuiful place to camp.
A couple of years ago we drove around Lake Superior.
Oh Canada :-)
