If you are really serious about camping out in bear country, you could try one of these new plexi-glass campers. They are small but they are supposed to be bear proof. Kind of reminds me of cellophane wrappings on a sandwich.

I've been almost that close (Churchill) without the cage. Just beyond his reach. Beautiful to look at but those eyes are black and remorseless. Makes the hair on the back of your head tingle
