Picking up and bringing across US border?

Hey Escapees,

I have read differing things about how US residents pick up Escapes. From the website it sounds like we just pick it up at the factory and bring it across the border with the proper paperwork we get from Tammy and Reece. But somewhere (fiberglassrv site maybe??) I read that the Escape has to be brought down across the border and the final exchange done in the US. Can someone clear up my confusion?

Eric

Hi Eric,

Crossing the border is very easy. I complete all of the paperwork that is required to import the trailer. When you arrive at the border they will ask you where the VIN number is on the trailer as they ask you to step inside. Once you are inside they will stamp your invoice with a rainbow coloured stamp and verify the VIN number on the trailer with the one on your documents.

When they are finished you are on your way. ;0) Yes it is really that easy.

For those customers who are having their trailer shipped east and then importing it into the US, the only information I do not have is the Port of entry number which the crossing guard will fill in along with the date of entry.

Yep.. it really was a non-event.. We got through the border in about 15min.. I think I spent way more time at the DMV registering it..

Thanks Tammy. I have asked you so many questions I was trying to get one answered here without having to bother you! But now it is here so any of us Yanks can see it. I went back, searched and found where I got confused - it is here: http://www.roamingtimes.com/rvreport...l-trailer.aspx

Thanks again for the quick reply Tammy!

I'll second that one!!! The DMV back home is MUCH more difficult. We didn't even get out of the truck! I did give the border guard a little sales pitch, and one of Reace and Tammy's cards though : - )
The only REAL trouble I had at the border, was when the guard wanted to see my wife's permission from her parents to be traveling with me. He thougth she was much too young and much too good looking to be traveling with me! I had to reluctantly agree :- )

LOL and appreciating your sweet comment!

When we crossed the border back into the U.S. it was a busy day at the crossing. We waited in line about 15 minutes and when we got up to gate the official barely looked at the papers Tammy had so carefully prepared, and didn't check the VIN on the trailer. He just glanced back at the trailer and said, "Well, did you buy anything else?"

I question why someone half your age would be traveling with you too.

My last crossing of the border (with my Escape) was funny, the guard looked at me, passed me a dog biscuit, and without batting an eyelash, speaking in a very firm voice, said "Sir, that is not for you". I guess he had a good sense of humour after all.

That's funny! I'd imagine you'd have to have a good sense of humor to survive that all day.

Re: Picking up and bringing across US border?

I crossed the border two days ago with a new car with no license plate and a new Escape. The Customs agent, dressed for battle, asked for my license number. I told him that I did not have one yet. He then asked for the VIN. I said that I think that it is on the dashboard, so he got a pad and wrote it down. He then asked if we had purchased anything in Canada. I told him that the trailer was purchased in Chilliwach about tow hours ago. He handed me a slip of paper, and told me where to "double" park, and to take the paper inside. We went in, gave the paper to another guy dressed in black combat clothes, and he said to go over to the counter off to the side. Another guy dressed for combat came after a brief wait, and asked what we were importing. I gave him the papers that Tammy had prepared, and he said, "well, they did all of the work for me!" He got out a large rummber stamp, banged on my form and handed it back to me saying, Have a nice Christmas."

Except for the rather intimidating clothes and being very officious, they made it a non-event. We were delayed at the border for a total of five minutes max. I liked it a lot better when they wore just a normal uniform. The combat boots remind me of old WWII movies when folks tried to get passed the SS guards.
