Have been using the same set of Corel for over 20 years now, and not one thing has broken.

Corelle, although the quality isn't as good as it used to be. I don't know about Canadians, but Americans have readily sacrificed quality for price (the Walmart effect).

We use good quality "plastic" from hiking and camping supply stores. It is light, durable and lasts forever! We have been tent campers our whole lives and find that the items that we use have been with us for many years. Stores like REI can set you up with good, light non breakable plates, bowls and utensils.

REI can't be beat and there's one in Bellingham to shop at right after your new trailer is handed over at Sumas (for U.S. citizens).

Corelle, as well. Although I agree that the quality is less than it used to be. Still durable, but the finish on the edges seems suspect.

Careful, Corelle CAN shatter. It usually only happens after repeated heating/cooling from the microwave or dishwasher (of course, no dishwasher worries when used in a trailer). It's microwave 'safe' though, unlike most melamine.

I bought a new set of Corelle for Ten Forward. I agree about the quality, but it has a pattern I like, and you do know.. it's all about the visuals

EXACTLY! Especially for some of us who are so fashion forward. The good thing is that there are so many patterns, it's easy to find something to go with whatever fabric/laminate one chooses.

I can't play on the visual with ours, as it quite dated, and not in a beautiful antique kinda way either.

We also bought new Corelle when we bought our Escape. However we are still using our old set of nested camping cookware. It may almost be time to upgrade that now.

Earlier in our camping career, we used paper plates. Give them to the kids to color on before supper. Keeps them busy. Have supper off of them. Then use them as fire-starter.
That is recycling.

I hope they coloured the back of the plates only.

Another Corelle user, currently, but we have used both metal and plastic in our trailer.

Yes, and if it breaks it shatters - never just breaks in two. It's tempered glass, and so heating cycles can cause problems, but scratches are an issue, too... a scratch now can mean shattering in a relatively mild bump later.

Overall, though, it works well - compact, durable, microwaveable, impermeable...

Big fan of paper, myself, unless serving up something that needs to be cut with a sharp knife, like the occasional steak it chop. Paper makes for easy cleanup and does help light campfires. Same with utensils. Use SS forks and steak knives with certain meats, but plastic much of the time. We often wash the plastic for reuse unless we are in a hurry to go somewhere. When not using paper plates, we use plastic plates that are flexible though somewhat thick and very lightweight. We use Corelle every day at home but not when camping.

We too are in the corelle ware camp. We have the REI Lexan plates, but corelle wins hands down for appearance. But we found some bowls made out of a bamboo material at LL Bean last fall that we really like. If we could find plates from the same stuff we would buy them. We have metal wine glasses (REI). And I am a big fan of this Zojirushi mugKeeps liquids hot or cold for hours

Melamine. Our Escape got a brand new set of Rockware Melamine dishes that LOOK like the speckled blue enamel, but won't chip like enamel does. Also plastic (acrylic? Can't remember...) stemless wine glasses and water tumblers that don't really look plastic at first glance - all a birthday present to me from my mother-in-law, as the trailer was picked up 2 days before my birthday . Add in my first set of stainless steel cutlery from when I moved away to University, and the trailer's well set for eating. Especially when you consider that most meals are eaten from the frying pan with two forks

We too have Corelle at home, but wanted a different look in the trailer.
