When the trailer is parked at home it's on a parking pad facing the street ready to be towed away by any enterprising trailer thief. I also will see how well it travels when we are on the road and leave the trailer untended on a campground.

Liz doesn't like the bright colour but I assume it is painted that way to be noticed when thieves drive by scoping out the trailer.

Makes sense to do something . Just a thought ,my kids said how about having a big heavy hard to cut chain attached to trailer frame that is in concrete ? I haven't done that myself . This looks interesting . Thanks Pat

Bought ours in Chilliwack at a trailer supply store near Escape when we picked up. It was the same price there as from the mfg located on Vancouver Island. $225 CAD as I recall.

Probably also need to know how deep the lug nuts need to be, and if the nuts are a cone seat. If they are 1/2"-20 and cone seat type, McGard makes a 5-lock set (#24538) so I can also lock the spare. Does anybody know?
I use the same model when I put the trailer in storage, and use a coupler barrel style lock when on the road. The combination works well for me.

Anyone using the Proven Industries Coupler Lock model 2178?

$139 here

https://www.rvupgradestore.com/prove...ock-p/2178.htm

unlike some other web sites that sell it for $195!

installation

I would buy one @ $139, but at $195 it seems very steep!

I ordered and received one, but it would not fit over the Escape hitch. I was told I needed

Atwood coupler lock | best trailer lock online

which is even more expensive. Will give a report once I try it out-it is supposed to be a new design which is even more secure.

Yep, you need the 2516 because of the metal strip along the front of the coupler. I considered it too, but $225? That's too steep for me.

why not just remove your tongue jack? no way they can drag the trailer with the stabilizers down

My understanding is that the stabilizers are not designed to support the weight of the trailer??

True, but they're easily raised.

True, but again, they'd just raise them.

The best chain I ever bought was Pewag 120 chain. It will ruin the jaw bits on a hundred and fifty dollar pair of bolt cutters without as much as a nick. However, it's not impervious to a grinder/ cutting wheel or the old blue wrench.( Oxy-acetylene cutting torch. ) There are some hardened steel shackles on rekeyable padlocks that are pretty hard too. Again, well equipped thieves with a plan are hard to thwart. Spur of the moment idiots are easier.

My point being on the tongue jack is unless the thief's vehicle matches the hitch height, without the jack the front can not be raised. The stabilizers are designed to hold the weight but not raise the trailer. I have taken my jack off several times with just the stabilizers holding the weight. You could put a concrete block under the tongue as a safety measure. I would not recommend going inside and using the trailer while just on the stabilizers but they will keep the trailer the the level you set it. So you lower the front close to the ground, place a small block, lower the stabilizer, and remove the jack. It would take 2-3 men together to lift the trailer onto the hitch.
Just thinking outloud without my morning coffee.

Sometimes I get really mad trying to secure property from being stolen and just say, If they want it, they can have it. But I always thought the best thing for the trailer would be a hidden GPS device. That way the trailer could be located and possibly the thieves caught. The problem is that on a lot of them, you have to pay a monthy subscription fee. Loren

I don't need the trailer jack. Just let me bring a good floor jack and a 4x4. Or even a crappy floor jack and a chunk of pipe. If I've scoped out your trailer, I'll know what I need to bring. Sad huh?

As I see it, I want the low lifes to be busted for grand theft. And if they are busted, they will also face a civil suit after the criminal trial because I will go after any and all assets they may own. As far as the cost is concerned, you don't simply go down to the corner lot and get a new Escape tomorrow. At my age, I can more afford a monthly charge than I can the loss of limited RVing time I may have left, and I don't want a stickie.

More than likely it will be your insurance company suing since they paid you for the loss.
