Question on wall between kitchen and dinette

On the 21 and some other trailers there is a wooden wall separating the kitchen from the dinette. Is that there for structural or some other functional purpose? If you swapped position of the stove and sink would you be able to remove that separator to open up the trailer a bit more? If it's structural, would you be able to place a post similar to the one on the sink side instead of the wall, to serve the same purpose?

Yes, it is structural. It is roof support. I too have wondered if a support pole would work as well. I guess you could always ask, and find out for certain.

Jim I think I remember Reace telling me (about 6 years ago) that aside from roof support it also provided lateral support for the walls.
I had asked him about a more open layout with no wall there.

Cheers

I was kinda suspecting this might be the case. With our bed back there it is really no big deal in the 19, but as a sitting area in the 21, I could see being open being more favourable.

Heard back from Escape and this modification cannot be done. No reason was given but it makes sense that it would be a roof/wall support issue. Oh well, it was worth a try!

Absolutely worth asking about. Although I have a 5.0TA and you're going for the 21', I can tell you that wall doesn't make the area feel closed in. I don't even notice it. The only time I think about it is when I'm thinking about adding a magazine rack (dinette side) or maybe a spice rack (kitchen side). And...

I had that wall reinforced, may add a television right there to view from the dinette... sitting at the rear drivers side (single traveler).

Others may chime in...

Thanks Donna. We still haven't found a 21 to view so I'm not sure if it's even something we would want to change. So it's good to hear that it isn't a concern.

Oh, and I like your rack ideas - turn it into a feature!!

As Donna says it does not make it feel closed in. We also had that wall reinforced and I do have a spice rack on the kitchen side. We also have the u-shaped dinette, which to us made the 21 feel more open. Just a matter of what feels right to you.
The stove is also right there, I kind of like knowing my food won't splatter over onto the cushions, you know just in case!!
