Just curious...are you hitting your head on the corners (left or right) or on the front?

Being another who is not challenged by an abundance of follicles, and who also suffers the not too infrequent scalping issue, including on our 19 door frame, I have used VHB tape to hold some ¾ red PEX tubing such that it acts as a buffer to the sharp (scalping) edge of the door frame. This is a very quick and easy mod that I have appreciated several times since I did it.
While it is relatively hard it replaces the sharp edge with a rounded surface. I find the red is more visible than the blue but to date I have not felt the need to illuminate it. Although with some LEDs it might make a nice entry light or night light.
I also agree the SAM-1 conversion is well worth it’s cost. For all the reasons mentioned previously.

That's a good idea. It would keep me from hurting my poor wifes ears when I make contact.

I think you should consider installing one of those rear bumper sensors that starts giving warning beeps as your head gets closer and closer.

That's interesting. I wasn't aware that there was such a sharp edge on the new door frame. Haven't had any issues hitting my chrome dome on the door frame of the classic 19, but I do seem to hit it on other things - like tree branches.
