My rhubarb is looking pretty good- identifiable leaves now, on most of the plants, thanks to a stretch of warm days. (Cold nights, though.) I need to run by my friend's house and check hers (she is gone until June) and make sure it doesn't need water. The really red red variety I have tends to be a bit later than the red outside, green inside that she has.

You not wish to know this but Rhubarb in the UK is storming along
Speaking of Rhubarb, which I have been a accused of before, I have attached a shot of my single crown here in the UK South. Luckily we have had a mild spring and I have already taken 7lb of stems from this and have a good picking to go before heading over the pond to pick up our new 21. See photo

The old Bohemies used to call it pie plant for good reason. My Rhubarb is about 8 inches tall now and coming along. Needs more sun.

Our two plants are doing great. Wish I could figure out how to post a photo to the forum. Guess I'm just an tech dinosaur. Two weeks till our first trip out for the season. Can't wait. Happy Easter to one and all.

I picked enough from my friend’s patch for a rhubarb pie. I have one plant with a few long atalks but my blood red rhubarb is slower to grow. Hers is the reddish-green type which is faster. We need more sun! (Hers also sits in a warmer location.)

Dave, I haven't heard that term (Bohemies) in a long time. My Omaha grandma (Czech) referred to their neighborhood folks as Bohunks. I sure do miss her cherry and apricot kolaches.
The other day my son referred to his young daughters a honyaks and it really took me by surprise. I don't think I've used it much, but my dad, 90, has, and that's where he heard it. Made me smile.

My best school friends had these last names Jirouch, Metelak, Rohlena, Novak, you get the idea. We ate kolaches every week, had a steady diet of Eastern European food, listened to polka music every Sunday morning on AM radio and helped our parents make pickles in crocks, smoke fish, make grape, dandelion and Rhubarb wine, and poppyseed kolaches that today would disqualify you from ever passing a drug test to drive a truck down the road. It was the best of times.
