RIP Gonzo th' Dawg

I'm sorry to say Gonzo th' Dawg crossed the Rainbow Bridge December 5th. He had a stroke and, fortunately for both of us, it was quick. He was 12 years old, partially blind and deaf, was slowing a bit but we had a good 22 months together. When I adopted him his previous family had given him up because they were going to have a baby.

I'm one who needs a dog, within a month I found another rescue that had been abandoned after closing hours at a shelter in Bakersfield, CA then transported to a rescue in Beaverton, OR. Sadie, “Th' Naughty Lady of Shady Lane”, is a 5 year old Australian Shepherd. She's good with people and really good with youngsters, her only issue is the dislike of other dogs and we're working on that on a daily basis. She's already become my Velcro dog, always ready to ride in the car and inspects the inside of the trailer each time I open the door. Once we work through her “issue” she'll be a good camper.

So sorry to learn of your loss. It is so painful to lose a dear companion. Hopefully, Sadie will help. She sounds as though she is trying to fill the void. My condolences.

It hurts. We still miss Charly every time we open the front door. You are braver than me, though, getting another.

So sorry for your loss. i remember your earlier posts about Gonzo and they made me smile. It takes a special person to adopt a senior shelter dog.

Sounds like your new lady will keep you on your toes.

May Gonzo rest in peace. It is so great to have dogs and so hard to lose them.

Glad you saved another animal, I have 5 rescue animals, 2 dogs and 3 cats. They are the best.

Pat, you did it right. I can think of no better memorial or tribute to a loyal friend than adopting a rescue animal after they're gone.

Sorry to hear about Gonzo, always tough to lose a friend. Sadie will be a comfort for sure, and getting her socialized with other dogs is just a matter of time and patience, as I know the breed is generally very accepting of other dogs.

So sorry to hear about Gonzo, but what a lucky dog to have shared your life these past years. Senior dogs are certainly special.

I'm sure Sadie will truly be your "Velcro dog" and she will have so much fun camping with you. Enjoy!!
