Dealing with insurance is about the most stressful thing I have ever had to do. I bet regardless of the coverage, you are just glad to have it done with. Though not full replacement, 88% of that is not all that bad all things considered.

I did all the chainsaw work to limb the tree and clean up all the branches and debris. The remaining tree trunk was over 1000 pounds and the insurance company needed a week to decide whether to repair or fix the trailer, so they told me not to damage it further removing the tree. So I had a tree guy to lift it out with a Bobcat and dispose of the trunk. That was over $1000 and not covered by auto or home insurance. When I complained, the insurance company said to submit the tree trunk removal bill and they would consider reimbursement. To my surprise, they did reimburse for the tree trunk removal.
Since there is no NADA or Kelly Blue Book values for Escape trailers, the insurance company valuation averaged the last asking price of 3 recent Escape 19 listings. Two of them had less options than ours, so I asked for a modest amount more and the insurance company said yes. I did the options analysis and probably could have gotten a bit more, but they paid the tree removal, so I didn't try extracting every last dollar. The valuation ended up 93% of what we paid in 2014 or 88% of a new similarly-equipped 2018. Note that this is the valuation, so their payment was the valuation minus the deductible. Loss of use is not covered, nor is travel cost to pick up a new or used trailer.
The insurance company said not to remove any factory-installed parts, as they get something from the salvage. I honored their request. Sorry to those who PM'd asking for parts.
I hope no one ever has to deal with this. But if you do, maybe this information helps.

So sorry with this outcome . I feel many have been selling their trailers too cheaply lately.
So comparing to others , I hope they look at what your trailer and condition was . After we are done with the full replacement we have , coming up here this year , this is eye opening . After fighting, I am in good hands insurance company, after the 94 Earthquake , any receipts you have can help a lot . It at least gives you a fighting chance . Hopefully this gets solved quickly and I hope fair to you . Pat

I would talk to the insurance company about buying your trailer back. I believe you have first option to buy. Since you are hooked up with the forum you could then sell parts off it. You would have to determine if it was worth it. The trailer would probably sell really cheap, maybe only a couple hundred dollars. Worth checking into.

Just to follow up on my April post with the demise of our 2014 Escape 19. We are back in action with a new Escape 19. Picked it up in Chilliwack last month, drove it down the Pacific coast, and brought it home to Massachusetts.

Would love to hear any suggestions regarding driving down the west coast. We pick up our 19'er in early Dec, and even tho' the weather won't be ideal (to say the least), we plan to also return to So Cal driving down the coast.

CONGRATS and enjoy your new home on wheels, and best thing is you still have all the memories and fun times you spent in the one that unfortunately was destroyed.
Enjoy the journey back home.

Actually my husband was taking a nap in the trailer 9 hours before it happened. We're thankful!
