Robertson Screws
One thing I did notice, out of the corner of my eye, is the number of Robertson screws that are used versus rivets on Escape trailers. Has anyone asked ETI about the "size" ? They all looked like the same to me... dang, should have asked while I was there!
I'd love to add the correct size to my toolbox...

Hi: Donna D... Red handle is the most commonly used Robertson driver... I think. Green and yellow are smaller, black is bigger. A multi head magnetic driver covers all the most used sizes. Alf

You guys are talking some foreign language to me.. Color? Are these things based on some handle color or is there a "size." Can't help myself, I can't figure out the metric system! And litres for fuel... I just hand the person at the pump my debit card and hope for the best
I'm pathetic

So, #2 doesn't refer to the length or thread? Just the size of the screwdriver required?

It's colour actually.
The colour of the handle is a quick reference to the size of the bit ( the thingy on the other end from the handle ).

Donna D., a rough conversion guide is that just under four litres equals one gallon, but you really don't want to dwell on how much you're paying for gasoline in Canada.
The good news is that you get a 9% "discount" these days because of the currency exchange rate.

Hi: Donna D... This is Canada Eh? A foreign country. We seem to do everything different... Even build better fiberglass trailers!!!
Why a 4Ltr. bag of milk, contains 3 individual bags is beyond me? A pkg. of hot dog buns = 8 buns, a pkg. of weiners= 6. A US. gallon =128oz. while a Can. gallon =160oz... Go figure? Alf

I have run across both ones's and two's. You could get a set like these. http://www.amazon.com/Bondhus-11640-...Robertson+bits
I use some bits for my drill to drive screws but you need to be carefully not to drive them too far. Robertson bits don't slip. I tighten them by hand after they are most of the way in.

There are 2 sizes used by Escape, the typical red handled size and one smaller. I'd get one of those multi bit sets with one handle.

Alf, I know we "foreigners" are a bit strange on many things but at least outside Ontario most of us now buy our milk properly, in two or four litre plastic jugs, not plastic bags of one and one third litres for which you need a special container into which to place the darn bag! Maybe we'll give you our unused one when you visit.

It would be nice if all screwdriver heads had corresponding colours like Robertson does, for a quick find in the toolbox.
#0 (yellow) - used for very small screws #0-4
#1 (green) - second most common, used for #5-6 screws
#2 (red) - by far the most common, used for #8-10 screws
#3 (black) - used for large screws, #12 or larger
Having the #1 & 2 (green & red) Robertson drivers will do about 95% of the screw heads. This is all I carry when pulling the trailer. Very rare to use the other two.
I am generally not a fan of multi-bit screwdrivers, though there is merit in having one for compactness with travelling. Do make certain you don't go for price when getting one. Spend the money on a good one, like this Klein model. You can always carry extra bits or nut driver heads to use with it.
