RVers w/ Hailstorm Experience

Would any of you be able to share your experience about how your Escape faired when pelted by small to medium-sized hail stones? (I've never personally seen anything bigger than a brussel sprout.) As a new Escape owner, I'm curious about how much punishment the shell/roof and solar panel can take from Mother Nature before sustaining damage. Rob

Re: RVers w/ Hailstorm Experience

Hi: rob.tillman...I haven't been out in a hail storm but I can show you what a 4"dia. tree limb did to the noggin dome on the roof of "Our Escape Hatch". When I saw the limb on the ground I thought "glad it didn't land on the trailer"...but I was wrong...it must have!!! Discovered the damage when giving her a wax before storage last fall. Alf

Re: RVers w/ Hailstorm Experience

Our 19 got pummeled with hail last year, most of it in the one bad storm was about 1/2-3/4". No evidence of damage to the trailer shell, but one vent cover got a hole in it. This was a storm that created a record for insurance claims in Calgary.

Re: RVers w/ Hailstorm Experience

Hi: Geo... So far they haven't been repaired. I made sure they have extra...copious amounts of wax applied to them. Until this thread/topic I'd forgotten about them. I have a can of clear gelcoat that my son used to apply glass fabric to reinforce a canoe paddle. I may just clean the area and give a coat or two of that. Need to study the problem a bit first. What are your thoughts? Alf

Re: RVers w/ Hailstorm Experience

I was in one, in a traditional trailer, and it broke out all the plastic vent covers. I was then on the roof scrambling with trash bags and tape to keep the rain out.

:'( Sorry about the egg crack Alf. You may want to look at Captain Tolley's Creeping Crack Cure: http://www.captaintolley.com/ It works best on flat surfaces, but I bet you can build a dam and build up the stuff.

Let us know how it goes.

If you live in the midwest, you should have a metal roof for everything!
