I'm thinking mainly of outside use- breaking on a gravel campsite surface where it would be hard to remove all the glass shards. It wouldn't be likely to break falling on the floor of the trailer except as you describe.

I use melamine but I don't have a microwave. It isn't supposed to go into the microwave, and obviously neither is metal.
