%@^* SCAM Alert

Hi: All...Just thought I'd let you in on another poss. money scam!!! This am. I opened my email and read a msg. from a soon to be Escaper which came from the wrong direction for picking up a 19'er. Last week I got a seemingly harmless note from him and responded... this time it got downright weird. I don't know who's email has been compromised his or mine but please be aware that some of our respondents who don't actually discuss trailer issues could be mineing our add's. for possible suspects to SCAM!!! Re: %@^* SCAM Alert

It's one more example of why we should NEVER post our E-mail in these threads. I'm not saying you did, but for everyone we should be very careful. I HATE thieves of any kind and these kind are some of the most vile!!! in my book. If I were God, I'd fix em quick.

Regards,

Keith

Yep.. Alway's use the "PM" feature to contact other users directly.. Also, I would highly suggest not publishing any phone numbers as well.. you might start getting calls from Vietnam..

If nothing else, scammers can provide entertainment.

Go to: http://www.419eater.com/html/letters.htm to see how the scammers can be scammed.

419eater puts the scammers through hoops to obtain the money, which never comes.

Re: %@^* SCAM Alert

Hi:All...I found out by phone this afternoon it wasn't my email that was compromised it was his. I was just one of the many recent recipients of the $$$'s requests to help him out of his predicament.

Re: %@^* SCAM Alert

I gather the scam was that somebody pretending to be somebody you know needs money because they had been arrested or been robbed. And, it sounds real because they know so much about you, which they get by mining FaceBook and such for personal details, which they then use to gain your confidence.

Best way to protect yourself is by looking up scams on the Better Business Bureau web site, or just Google scams so you know what scams are being run.

Re: %@^* SCAM Alert

The most vile of these scammers are the ones that pretend to be a grandchild trying to get money from a grandparent. A third-party send the message to the grandparent saying the grandchild needs some money to fix a car, etc. The way the message is worded, it is sooo very believable especially since it tugs at the heartstrings of loved ones.

BE AWARE and BEWARE.

another great resource for scam detection is Snopes:

I never got the full details, but I know my mom was talking to my wife about just this, but it was the same type scam but over the phone. My mother got called from someone claiming to be a friend of her granddaughters and that she was in trouble and needed help in the form of money. They give no names, expected the grandparent to offer up the name in response. My mom was fully aware of this scam as a friend of hers had been hit, and she asked if it was "Stephanie", to which they said yes. I have no daughter or niece with that name, so my mom saw it for the scam it was, and just hung up.

Hopefully most people on-line, will be a little more carefull on what to believe.
I have had a few attempts to scam me.
Mainly from posting Craigslist ads.
If it sounds fishy, it usually is.

Re: %@^* SCAM Alert

The only thing is to treat everyone who calls or emails as strangers, which they are. You wouldn't give money to a stranger on the street, don't do it over the phone or internet. These people stay up nights thinking up stories to tell you to convince you to hand over money.
