Senior Alert

As a member of the senior class although I do not own a Grand Torino I do have plans to duplicate Clint Eastwood’s achievement. He’s now 88 years old and can still tell when something doesn’t smell right. Since a lot of us trailer folk are seniors, or close to it, a call I got today might be useful.

No, it wasn’t about a too good to be true deal on a used Escape. A young man claiming to be my nephew and sounding sadly in trouble told me a story how he was in Ohio, was attending his best friend’s wedding, and needed help. He had me right there. First he said I had to keep it a secret because he didn’t want his folks to know about his broken nose from an auto accident and how he failed a breathalyzer test, and, wait for it…. Needed ten thousand dollars bail money.

I said, which town in Ohio are you at? After a pause, he said Toronto. (I didn’t think there was a Toronto in Ohio but later checked and there is, a few miles north of Steubenville. ) But his answer suddenly raised my otherwise nose-blind sensors. These guys are good, yes, they use your kicked in sympathetic instincts to reel you in.

He probably was in Toronto ON. The pause was while he was trying to think of any town in Ohio, but couldn't.

Flashback.....I received an email once telling me my SIL was on vacation and was in an accident and needed 10,000 for urgent medical care. Included were instructions on where to send the money. I sent a copy of the email to my brother and the FBI internet fraud site.
Amazing what people will do.

I won the Publishers Clearing House contest and in order to receive my $5,000/week for life, I had to set up a wire account for them to wire my money into my bank account. NOT.....Nowadays I just answer the phone with "IRS" or "FBI" and they hang up....

Not that many years ago I got a letter from a Nigerian prince.
It was a real envelope, with a hand-written letter and there was a real stamp on the letter.

I was amazed because email scams were already prevalent. Cost him an envelope and the postage. He should have enclosed a self addressed stamped envelope.

My real blunt side kicks in on these sympathy deals,
The “you owe the IRS deals”. The outstanding warrant deals. Etc etc etc. Makes me feel good to bully them and hear them hang up. I have no fear of reprisal. Know your enemy.
