stray cat

Someone dropped off a cat that wandered into our yard and is now trying to adopt us. A consideration is what to do with him when we eventually travel in our 19'. Anyone doing that in Escape land? If so, do you use a litter box? David and Cathy

Re: stray cat

Lots of people travel with cats in molded trailers. Probably the most traveled cat that I know is Jim's and Carol's cat Jerry. He is typically seen around the campground in a cat stroller! He wears a harness and doesn't seem to mind in the least being on a lead. BUT, they got Jerry when he was six weeks old and has traveled with them since that time.

The only pets I have are dust bunnies....

Re: stray cat

I too have met Jerry the Cat. A lot of fiberglass people travel with cats ... but there's only one cat like Jerry.

I have never owned or seen a cat do any of that.

Re: stray cat

If you chose to let the cat adopt you, there are a couple of considerations;
1. If the cat is feral, but opportunistically scoring free meals from you, you will probably never be able to domesticate it...he will just hang around for meals.
2. If the cat decides its an indoor cat, have it tested for feline AIDS and feline leukemia before you let him join your household.
3. If you do decide to travel with him, train him early in a harness. The cat will have to be harnessed and restrained while you are camping or he'll become some forest critter's dinner.
4. Regardless of how it works out, PLEASE have the cat neutered...no sense starting a whole new batch of kittens. There are probably discount spay/neuter services in your area.

p.s.: Do we know if the member from Vietnam is a real person, or a spambot?

Re: stray cat

It is best to keep ,cats and smll dogs on a leash at any time you stop here in the Yukon.

We have somthing up here in abundance that most pets cannot get away from----"Eagles"

A women let her small white dog out for a run at a rest stop on the highway, and an Eagle scooped it right in front of her.

She hollored but the Eagle did not bring it back.
