Sumas RV Park after picking up Escape TT

Has anyone stayed at Sumas RV park after picking up their Escape? We were thinking of staying there the first 1 or 2 nights to do a shakedown.

Not a nice place. We have friends in Sumas that we visit a couple of times a year. I walk the dog in the morning over at the Sumas rodeo grounds that are across the creek. There seems to be quite a few semi-permanent residents that seem to live there full time. Plus you have a pretty active train track on the other side of the highway. I would go for the KOA in Lynden, much nicer. Scott

There are plenty of scenic parks within an hour or two of the border. KOA Lynden is well thought of, as well as some of the Washington State Parks in the area.

We stayed there Thanksgiving week and it was great. They are closed, but not really. You can make a reservation for winter months or just pull in and grab a spot. You leave your payment info on a slip and in a Dropbox. No staff except maintenance, bathrooms are closed but full utilities are on so no issue since you want to be using the trailer facilities to make sure there aren't any issues.

I second the KOA in Lynden. Very nice place. Ask for a site with a concrete drive. We ended up on grass. Tracked a lot of wet grass in as we hauled supplies from our tug the first night. Enjoy!

Good advice huskersteffy, We had a grassy sight too and really enjoyed our remoteness and privacy, but it rained a little and we tracked a lot of grass clippings also.

Or, if you would like to try boon docking, head east from Sumas on 547 then continue on 542 (Mt. Baker Highway) where there are several campgrounds to choose from. We enjoyed the Douglas Fir National Forest campground ["Miss August" from the 2016 Escape calendar was photographed here.]. We found a campsite on a Saturday evening (July 25, 2015) with no reservation, although they do accept reservations.

We found the woman at the Maple Falls Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center very helpful. She also recommended the Silver Lake County Park.

Secret new recipes for scrapple, jalapeño spam, head cheese, chitterlings and sweetbreads are tested and evaluated. Cardiologist contact list is updated and plans hatched for replacement of the new trailer you just picked up. ( Before the propane runs out). That's what my sources tell me.

We plan to arrive and get a cabin to stay in since we have dogs, drive up to factory and see the trailer, test out the systems. Next morning return for paperwork/short orientation and then have them bring the unit across the border. Hook up and return to campground, empty the containers from truck into trailer. Check out and head east...

$64 question When? Jim we are only 20 miles off of I-80. You're welcome to stop over after your first day of driving.

I know he's good but one day from the PNW to Iowa?? That's some serious driving.

Upon reflection, I should have said that the Sumas RV Park would not be my first choice for staying in the Sumas area, not that it is “not a nice place”.

I believe that the RV Park has new owners that have cleaned up the place and moved some the older trailers that were by the creek. On a positive note, it’s a short walk to Bromely’s IGA and the Mexican restaurant El Nopal which has good food and even better margaritas and the very nice Sumas public library. If you are traveling with dogs, there are the Rodeo grounds across the creek and ball/soccer fields behind the RV Park to exercise the pups. There, I feel better. Scott

The Sumas RV park is right next to a dairy farm, not so good. Pretty run down. We just stayed at the Lynden KOA which was nice. Ask for the shaded sites, the others are pretty hot with a weatern exposure.

Agree - the Sumas RV park did not look good. We have stayed at the Lynden KOA, very nice but I believe they have limited services after October 1 (no restrooms). We have also stayed at The Cedars Ferndale RV Campground - Ferndale Camping - Holiday Trails RV Resorts in Fermdale. Nice, near I 5 and close to shopping (Costco, Camping World and Walmart). Some folks stay at Bay View State Park - beautiful spot but we wanted full hook ups the first few nights (then we headed off for more adventures!).

Happy Trails and, as always, safe travels!
