Texas parks

Heading from Maine to Texas after picking up 19' at Elkhardt,In..
Would love some insight on nice quiet Texas state parks, ones with natural beauty and scenic camping . Dry or with facilities is ok.
I know Texas is a huge state ,will be going thru eastern Ok.to get there. Plan on spending at least a month and traveling around some.
Would like to know what are your favorite 5? Thanks, Herb

Starting from the North Central area:
Dinosaur Valley SP
Pedernales SP
Enchanted Rock SNA
Matagorda Bay LCRA
Balmorhea SP

And of course Big Bend NP.

Lots of miles between all these places!

My fav 5 are: Palo Duro Canyon (Texas Grand Canyon!)
Brazos Bend (one of America's top 10)
Davis Mountains (big views, cool, high elev. climate)
Goose Island ( birding area, Gulf coast fishing)
Caddo Lake (cypress swamp/east Texas culture)

Explore our vast land and enjoy our rich history and culture. Get yourself a State Parks guide and Texas visitors guide by mail or at the state line visitors centers to help plan your route.

We're on a Texas trip at the moment. We've already been to Davis Mountains and Abilene. We're in a private park in Canton and heading to another for the Round Top Flea Market in Carmine, Tx. Looking forward to staying at Lake Livingston, Goose Island and Lockhart SP's. We're staying at San Luis Pass County Park in Bravozas (sp?) county on the coast. All have great reviews and no full-timers which puts me off a little about private parks. All in all, from our experience, Texas State Parks are very well maintained, well run and very good places to stay.

Greggo,
We just left Nails Creek SP, near the Roundtop Antique Event. I can highly recommend this park as quiet, well managed, lots of wildlife, fishing, and Texas wildflowers.

Thanks Dave. Wished I known but we're booked into Dixieland RV Park in Carmine for a week. Going to Roundtop as well now that we just finished Trade Days in Canton. How was Roundtop? Are you going to Bluebonnet?

Roundtop gets bigger every year with many small towns in the area offering antiques/junk to be had. JW's Steakhouse in Carmine has good food & service.
I will miss the Bluebonnet Rally this year due to work obligations. I would think that a few Escapes will be in attendance.
Enjoy your visit to Texas. It's a great time of the year to explore.

Herb, how's the trip working out? We left Goose Island and went on to Lockhart SP, Bandera, Abilene, music festival in Turkey and now we're headed west back home through Arizona. Gorgeous countryside away from the interstates! Keep in touch. Best to your wife (Lois?),
