Thank you......

I can't say how much I appreciate the support of this group....!!!! I am nearing the end of my build sheet... and know what? I am looking forward to meeting fellow Escapees in many, many camping adventures! I will have to check - I would like to have a forum of "where am I/you?" to connect with fellow Escapees in real time.
Again.... thanks all! I know I will have more questions but I wanted to express my appreciation for ALL the thoughts, suggestions and support in my process of bringing my Thistle Dew II home.

There is concern about posting that you are away from your home and inviting thieves to break in.

First they have to get past our starving crocodiles.

Yes, don't leave your house in the morning either, the thieves could be waiting on your street watching for you to leave the house. They could have your Escape hitched up and in the next county before you finish that first cup of coffee at your desk.

With our remote location, I would not post when or what. But running into other escapees is fun! Even more fun when by surprise!

Well.... points well taken about thieves and publishing outings... I am on other sites where outings are arranged - but I understand the concerns. Those who have indicated they are intending to go to the May rally better check their burglar alarms before leaving

In the spirit of my original message.... thanks so much to all of you for your help and support in putting my little trailer build sheet together!

Just because you "announce" you will not be home does not necessarily indicate you are leaving the front door open, we have other household members living with us that remain at home to handle mail and grass or any other routine chore as well as stay there. No different than as if we were home. In addition to the alarm and telling neighbors, having adult children living at home has it's benefits.

This is very true. While it does not hurt to not advertise online you are gone, it definitely does not say your house is open for invasion.

I would think the simple fact for those that keep their trailer at home, that having it not there would raise interest to any watching criminals as much, or more than, saying where you are in a trailer forum.

Alert your good neighbours of your absence, have someone stay at the house, or at least frequent it often, buy good insurance, and go make memories.

I do know that I now have a very long list of folks all across North America that I would love to stop in for a short visit. Folks I have met through photography, canoeing and trailering forums. Looking forward to this as much as seeing all the sights there are to see out there.

Not sure though how easy it would be to keep track of who is travelling where, and trying to make a connection while camping though.

Maybe we Forum members could work with the NSA on an app that would feature a map similar to this Forum's Owners Map. I'm sure that the technology is currently up and running, it just needs to be converted to Android and iOS platforms. I'd pay $1.99 for it!

One advantage to living in a townhouse and knowing our 2 neighbours really well...

And some of them work shift work as do I, so often there is someone home in one of our units....

Heck the first time we came home with the new car Marc had it figured out and told his parents---just like I know when the gal next door has her dads truck or car...

Nosy?? Nah---informed!!!

And yeah the trailer being gone is usually a dead giveaway--but sometimes it is just at ETI getting a spa treatment!!!

security at home

Years ago in a CA tract type home we had a motorhome that was parked next to the house and very visible, if it was gone, we were gone. I installed an alarm system designed for our use and put the large bell box up high under the eves of the second story where everyone could see it and hear it and not have access to it. I guess it worked for years as we had no problems.

Hi: azjack... We have one better. No install required on ours. One day I got to work, and couldn't remember closing the garage door. I called our neighbour and without getting up she told me it was closed. One night I came home and before getting in the house she was on the phone to my wife to say I had a headlight out. Now that's security!!! Alf

Our view is; sometimes it's a small world and you run into people purely by luck, we don't go out of our way to try and get other folks in the same place as us at the same time. If it's meant to be, it'll happen.

I did the same thing long before it was common to have an alarm. I used a large fire bell. We've only had a few false alarms over many years (operator error ) but that was good. It showed us that a person a block away could hear it and being a distinctive loud sound they didn't treat it like the everyday car alarm wail. When you're inside and it goes off it sounds like the whole wall is vibrating. The last thing you'd want to do is stay in the house and look around. Yup, must work, we've never had a break-in here for many years, touch wood.

Hi: cpaharley2008... Most of the time my socks match. If they don't it's ok as I know I have another pair just like them!!! Alf
